Seniors    Na Gaeil played Ballymac in Killeen in round 6 of the County League on Sunday in perfect conditions. Na Gaeil opened the scoring after ten minutes with two points from their no. 15 Diarmaid Herlihy.

Ballymac replied with points from Gene Griffin and Daire Keane. Dara Devine pointed a free for Na Gaeil on 16 minutes and the same player followed up with a well taken goal minutes later. Andrew Barry and Diarmaid Herlihy had further points for Na Gaeil.

Then Ballymac scored four on the trot; the scores coming from Gene Griffin, Eana Reidy, Vinney Horan and an Aidan Breen free. Kieran Donovan and Andrew Barry fired over two more points for Na Gaeil followed by a point from Ballymac’s Aidan Breen. Dara Devine pointed another free and Diarmaid Herlihy scored the last point of the half to leave the score at the interval: Na Gaeil : 1-09; Ballymac: 1-06.

Diarmaid Herlihy pointed for Na Gaeil 5 minutes into the 2nd half followed by a good point from their wing back Eoghain Sheehy. Aidan Breen pointed a free for Ballymac followed by another Dara Devine pointed free after a foul on Eoghain Sheehy.

Na Gaeil goalkeeper made a great save at the other end to deny Ballymac a certain goal. Ballymac’s Cathal Dunne replied with a point but Eoghain Sheehy was on the end of a great Na Gaeil move to send a neat shot to the corner of the Ballymac net.

Na Gaeil were now 7 points clear with 15 minutes of the half gone. Diarmaid Herlihy fired over his 6th point of the game on 20 minutes to widen the gap further. Ballymac were dealt a blow when Shane O’Reilly was sent to the line after receiving a yellow and a black card. But Ballymac never dropped their heads and kept pushing on.

Their no. 12 Gene Griffin pointed on 26 minutes followed by a goal on 29 minutes from Padraig McCarthy to narrow the gap to just 4 points. Three minutes into injury time AidanBreen pointed a free to leave a goal between the sides.

Ballymac won the kick out and drove forward for the last attack. They were awarded a 14 metre free which Aidan Breen lobbed into the square.  Con Reynolds jumped highest and fisted the ball to the Na Gaeil net for a last gasp equaliser.  On the kick out the referee blew the final whistle. Final score: Na Gaeil 2-13; Ballymac: 3-10. Ballymac will be delighted with the draw but Na Gaeil will be disappointed to have conceded two late goals to leave with only a share of the spoils.
