Seniors:
County senior league vs Rathmore:
Facing into the breeze in the first half we got off to the worst possible start when conceding a goal in the first minute after good work from Shane Ryan, who fed an inrushing forward for the opening goal. Mark Reen quickly followed up with a point from play and we had yet to register a meaningful attack.

Tommy Walsh had our opening point on seven minutes from a free but this was quickly negated by midfielder Brian Moynihan who fired over from about 40 metres to leave us four behind after just 10 minutes. Cian Sayers then broke up from wing back to kick a great score which was quickly followed by two points from Tommy Walsh, one from play and the other from a placed ball. However, we were to concede the next score, a goal when Shane Ryan again was the provider and it left the visitors ahead by four adding two further points they lead by 2-06 to 0-06 after 2o mins.

At this stage, we were more in the game in the middle of the field through great work by Con Barrett and John C O’Connor and we had come to grips with the visitors in attack with great defending from Cian Sayers, ” Chucky” Carroll and Karl Mullins; indeed it was Karl who provided the spark before half time when he won a breaking ball about 20 metres from goal and driving forward hit a great low drive to the corner of the net to bring us right back into the game – further points from Tommy and John Feguson both from play had us behind at the interval, 2-07 to 1-09.

The stiff breeze allied to the continued dominance of our midfield, half back line and impressive full backs of Danny O’Sullivan, Ross O’Callaghan and Darragh McElligott meant we were on the offensive for much of the second half and the scores flowed through some great football – we hit 1-08 to 0-03 in this period, restricting Rathmore to one point from play in a power packed second period; we had a four point cushion throughout much of this half and when Ross O’Callaghan intercepted a move he found Karl Mullins motoring through the middle and Karl duly found  corner back Darragh McElligott bearing down on goal and he finished coolly to the back of the net to ensure we took the points.

Final score: Kerins O’Rahillys 2-17, Rathmore 2-10.

Overall this was a fine performance given the loss of so many players which included Shane Brosnan and Cormac Coffey who were both injured during the week; we had fine performances throughout the pitch from Gary in goal to Shane McElligott in attack and each and every player can be proud of their contribution. We have a break next week due to the Munster football finals and resume the week after when we travel to high flying Spa for round 8.

Team: Gary Kissane, Danny O’Sullivan, Ross O’Callaghan, Darragh McElligott ( 1-0), Cian Sayers (0-1), Ryan Carroll ( 0-02), Karl Mullins ( 1-0), Con Barrett ( 0-01), John C O’Connor, Donagh O’Brien, Tommy Walsh ( 0-09, 5fs), Padraig Griffin, Seán Collins, John Ferguson ( 0-04), Shane McElligott.

Subs used: Gearoid Savage, Jason O’Leary, Johnny Keane, Gearoid Dillane.

Division 5 Group A:

Kerins O’Rahillys 1-06
Austin Stacks       2-14

We played second fiddle to a much stronger Stacks outfit on Sunday afternoon in our final fixture in division 5.

Short a number of regulars due to holidays/exams plus the fact that some lads had earlier played division 1 vs Rathmore did not help us and from the outset it was clear that Stacks were the superior side.
We trailed by 4 points to nil in the first 10 mins before Rory Molloy had our first score,  a point from play; Stacks responded quickly with a goal from play and despite a goal from Kevin Johnson and a point from Gearoid Dillane, we were 6 points down at half time, 1-09 to 1-03.

The second half continued in the same vein with Stacks dominating and though we tried manfully we were deficient in too many areas and Stacks ran out deserving winners , on a final score of 2-14 to 1-06.

Charlie Kerins:

We are away to Duagh on Friday night next 22nd June @ 19.30 when we take on the locals.

Munster Finals:
Next weekend sees both Kerry senior and minor teams take part in the Munster finals  on Sat evening in the newly revamped Pairc Ui Chaoimh; following the seniors emphatic win over Clare there is an air of excitement around the county now that we can maybe challenge for this year’s All Ireland – for their part, Cork will not want to see a repetition of 1976 when following the reopening of the ” Park” Kerry won after a replay in extra time in a game that had much controversy, most notably our own Seanie Walsh’s goal when his shot was adjudged to have been taken over the line by a Cork defender following a quick free kick from Mikey Sheehy, a score that was hotly disputed by the Rebels.

Throw in is @ 19.00 and we would like to wish David, Barry John and Jack all the best on the night.

Earlier in the day, @ 16.30, our minors will take on Clare hoping to make it 6 titles in a row at this grade – this is a remarkable achievement and based on form to date, they should be good enough to take the honours – best of luck to Peter Keane, his management team of Tommy Griffin and James Foley and the team in their quest for glory.

Please note traffic restrictions will be in place on Sat night in and around the stadium  with Gardaí advising patrons to park in the city and take a shuttle bus to the stadium or alternatively to use public transport via the 202 bus.

Kerry U-20s:
Kerry will host Waterford this coming Friday night ( 22nd) in the Munster semi final following their facile win over Limerick on Friday night last; their tally of 1-30 tells its own story and despite the paucity of the opposition it is obvious that this is a serious team with a lot of work done. Well done to our own Alan O’Sullivan, physical trainer, the team and management on this win. Friday night’s game will throw in @ 19.30 in Austin Stack Park.

Academy:
Sunday morning last saw a huge crowd descend on Healy Park as Laune Rangers paid us a visit with their U6s, U8s & 10s; there were some great games played with plenty of skills on show and some hard knocks! Teas/ coffees were enjoyed by all making it a great morning overall for kids and parents alike.

Our players of the week are:

U6S: Kimberley Horan and Erin Corridon – well done to both, keep on practising!

U-12:
Keel /Castlemaine were the visitors on Sunday evening as the league continues and in a great tussle it was the visitors who came out in top on a final score line of 5-12 to 5-10; our B team played well but came up short in the end against a physically stronger side.

We will complete our fixtures next Sunday when Ardfert come to Healy Park with games commencing at @ 6.30 pm.

U-14:
The Kellihers sponsored central region kicks off this Monday night when our B team travel to Laune Rangers in the opening round; the A game vs Ballymacelligott has been postponed due to the involvement of a no of our players with Tralee district in the county championship.

We travelled to Mallow on Sat last to take part in the Munster GAA Super touch 10 a side – we played Keel/Listry in the opening group game and were beaten in the end by 6 points; our next game saw us take on Glanmire of Cork who emerged winners following a late goal – Keel/Listry having won both their games progressed to the finals – sincere thanks to the parents who travelled to Mallow early on Sat morning.

Ladies:
U12 GIRLS
Our U12 girls travelled to Glenflesk on Tuesday night last to play the last round of the county league, Div 2.
It was a calm dry night and the game got off to a good start for the home team when they got a long distance goal. We exchanged pts. with them, our opening pts. coming from Kelly Fitzgerald and Nathali Mulumba then we had a goal from Aoibhín O’Connor MacCarthy who due to a foot injury lined out at full forward.
The game was very competitive, we added 2 pointed frees by Aoibhín O’ Connor MacCarthy.
Nathali Mulumba was outstanding adding 2 further pts. before half time to leave the score 2-6 to 1-6 in at the break in favour of Glenflesk.
In the second half it was all to play for as our midfield began to dominate and got extra ball into the forwards. Aoibhín O’ Connor MacCarthy won a ball out to the right of the goals and with little or no space she kicked a brilliant goal to the roof of the net. Within 2 minutes she added a second goal and we lead 3-6 to 2-8 for a while. Glenflesk added a goal and 3 further pts. while we had pts. from Lauren Doody and Sophie Hassett . Nathali, Aoibhín and Lauren were outstanding on the night.
Final score ..G’flesk 3-11 to KOR 3-8.

Team. Millie Hayes, Ava Ward, Rachel Foley, Farah Leahy, Fiadh McCarthy, Lauren Doody ( 0-1), Saoirse MacCarthy, Ella O’ Connor, Sophie Hassett ( 0-1), Aoibheann McCarthy, Kelly Fitzgerald ( 0-1), Nathali Mulumba (0-3), Aoife Behan,Aoibhín O’ Connor MacCarthy ( 3-2) , Taylor Stack, Amy Behan ( injured) .
