SENIORS

Our next fixture will see us travel to Spa Killarney next weekend for round 8 of the senior county league division 1. A place in this years final is still very much in our own hands as we lie in fourth position in the table, 4 points adrift of Dr Crokes but only 2 behind An Ghaeltacht and one behind our next opponents, Spa. A win at the weekend would see us very much in the mix and your support on the day would be much appreciated. The game goes ahead on Sunday next 1st July @ 14.00

Kerins O’Rahillys B:

Having lost out narrowly on the play offs for promotion from division 5, we are now in the running for the shield competition which sees us drawn against Dingle next weekend; this is a home fixture with the date and time to be finalised this week.

Minors:

Our minors played Feale Rangers in Mountcoal on Friday night last (22nd) in a preliminary round of the county championship; we were competitive for three quarters of the game but the loss of TJ McMahon and Darragh Fitzgerald to injury was too much on the night and the north Kerry side ran out winners on a final score line of 4-12 to 2-08. Well done to Paul, Seán & Norman for their efforts with this squad and to the lads who gave their all – this is a very young side with the majority of them eligible for this grade again next year and for many it was their first taste of county championship action – beidh lá eile agaibh gan dabht!

Congratulations:
Congrats to David and Barry John on picking up Munster senior medals on Sat night – David was the best midfielder on view making some great fetches with Barry John giving his usual all action display when introduced – though tougher tests lie ahead, this was very impressive from Kerry, gaining their biggest win over the Rebels in 80 years. We can all look forward  now  to the Super 8s and some more great days out.

U-20s:

Congrats to Kerry who advanced to the Munster final on Friday night last with a facile win over Waterford; well done to our own Alan O’Sullivan ( physical trainer) for his involvement with this team.

The Munster final against old rivals Cork, will now take place this coming Friday night in Austin Stack Park where throw in is @ 19.30; a different challenge undoubtedly awaits next week but despite the lack of real competition to date, the squad looks to be in great shape and a big performance is anticipated.

Academy:
A hugely enjoyable morning on Sunday last in the glorious sunshine in Healy Park; the focus this week was on skills testing with all the boys and girls passing with flying colours! Tea and coffee was replaced by water and ice pops with everybody in high spirits in the fine weather and of course Kerry’s weekend performances! Academy continues next week at usual time of 11.00 AM

Congratulations to our players of the week:
U6 Boys Adam O’Sullivan
Cian Heaphy
U6 Girl.   Caoimhe Fitzgerald
U8 Girl.  Nicola Corridon
U10 Girl. Anna Corridon
U10 Boy Jayden Collins

U-12s:

We played host to Ardfert in the final game on Sunday night of phase 2 and despite a brave effort came up short at the end, on a final score line of : Kerins O’Rahillys 2-07 Ardfert 5-12.

U-13s:

We were at home on Thursday night last to Ballymac and put on a fine display winning in the end by 5-12 to 2-07 – well done to all the boys and management.

U-16s:

Our U-16s made their bow in the county league on Weds night last when Ballyduff were the visitors to Strand Road; Ballyduff, physically stronger, settled well and were 1-04 to 0-01 ahead after the first quarter; we soon found our rhythm and with Gavin Burrows to the fore scoring 1-01,  we worked our way back into the game to trail by two points at half time, 2-06 to 2-04. The second half saw us struggle to cope with the pressure and we found ourselves 13 points in arrears entering the final quarter. However, goals from TJ McMahon, Sam McCarthy (2) and Conor O’Sullivan threw us a lifeline and with only minutes remaining we had the deficit down to one point – Ballyduff responded with the final two points to run out winners on a final score line of : Ballyduff 4-18, Kerins O’Rahillys 7-06. Despite the loss, there were many positives to take from the game given the age profile of the team ( most are underage again next year) , not least scoring 7 goals and the experience should stand to them as the year progresses. Our next game is on Weds 11th July when we travel south to take on Kilgarvan/Tousist.

We would like to say a sincere thanks to Leo Foley of Fastway Couriers for his generous gesture in sponsoring a new set of jerseys for this team; Leo’s family are steeped in the club with his father, Johnny being a former All Ireland senior medal winner with Kerry when he manned the goals in 1953 vs Armagh on a day when fellow Strand Road man, Jas Murphy had the honour of captaining Kerry. The club are indebted to all our sponsors for their ongoing support which enables us to provide the services and facilities which we otherwise might not be in a position to do.

Ladies:

U12 GIRLS
On Tuesday evening in Castleisland our U12 girls contested The County League Final, division 2 .
It was a beautiful evening with a slight breeze blowing from the town end. Captain on the night Ella O’ Connor won the toss and opted to play with the breeze.
The game got off to a hectic start with end to end attacks.
First to score for us was Kelly Fitzgerald with a well taken pt. from play. Glenflesk responded with 2 pts. from play.
We responded with a pointed free by Aoibhín O’ Connor MacCarthy . Glenflesk then had an attack and their number 13 finished with a goal. We responding with a fine pt. from play by  Aoibhín O’ Connor MacCarthy . Glenflesk however again got the better of our back line and finished with a goal from their no. 6.
Kelly Fitzgerald caught some good ball at full forward and from two successive attacks scored 2 great pts. to leave the halftime score Glenflesk 2-2 to KOR 0-5.
The start of the second half saw us play out our purple patch as we opened the half with a pt. by Aoibhín O’ Connor MacCarthy , followed with an attack which resulted with a great goal by Sophie Hassett . Soon after Aoibhín
added another pt. to leave us 2 pts. to the fore. The game was going our way. We had a great chance to add another goal which hit the post from another shot from Sophie followed by another near miss from Aoibhín.
Unfortunately directly after this and against the run of play Glenflesk got a goal. This they followed with a second goal in quick succession from a long ball to one of their forwards who was poaching smartly in behind our backs. This second goal was the killer blow for our team.
We exchanged pts. with Glenflesk after this with our pts. coming from a free and one from play by  Aoibhín .
Glenflesk came out deserving winners in the end with a Final  score of Glenflesk 4-9 to KOR 1-9.
We can take comfort that we gave Glenflesk the best game they played in the league .
Our players on the night were outstanding , all giving their very best to the very end especially Aoibhín O’ Connor MacCarthy, Lauren Doody and Kelly Fitzgerald.

Team on the night:
1. Millie Hayes 2. Ava Ward 3. Rachel Foley 4. Taylor Stack 5. Fiadh McCarthy 6. Lauren Doody 7. Saoirse O’ Connor MacCarthy 8. Ella O’ Connor 9. Sophie Hassett ( 1-0) 10. Aoibheann McCarthy 11. Aoibhín O’ Connor MacCarthy (0-6) 12. Nathali Mulumba 13. Aoife Behan 14. Kelly Fitzgerald (0-2) 15. Farah Leahy
Subs: Donna O’ Regan, Ciara Gallagher, Emma Greensmith , Leila Halloran, Amy Behan, Sophie O ‘ Connor.

U14 GIRLS
Co. League semifinal last Sunday evening – Scartaglin v KOR . Final score 2-12 to 2-2. The scoreline had no justification on the final score there. It was a tight knit game , both sides played fantastic football . It was a pleasure to watch.
There was a pt. between the sides at half time but something had to give ! 50 minutes gone and Scart took off with some great moves in the forwards.
Sarah Costello and Aoibhín O ‘ Connor MacCarthy got great goals and Katie Nix some great pts. It was a great game with an unreal standard of football.
Well done to our girls for putting up a fight. Our captain was Siúna Crowe.
This Wednesday, June 27th we are away to Churchill for a challenge match. Throw in at 7.30p.m. More details to follow.
