Seniors:
No activity this weekend but with Kerry exiting the All Ireland championships earlier than expected, the next few weeks will see the conclusion of the county league and the commencement of the county championship.

First up next weekend is the Coiste Trá Lí Lee Strand town championship when we take on John Mitchels in the semi final which will be played in Strand Road on Sunday 12th with a throw in time of 2 pm.

The final round of the county league will take place on weekend of 17th August when we welcome Dingle to Strand Road where a win or draw will see us advance to the league final with Dr Crokes – we are awaiting confirmation of this fixture due to the festival kicking off on that week.

The first round of the Garveys Supervalu county championship will take place on Sat August 25th when we play Feale Rangers – the date has been set but we await confirmation of venue; the 2nd round will take place on Sat 1st Sept. The rationale behind the Saturday games is that the county senior hurling final is fixed for Sunday 26th August and the All Ireland football final will take place on Sunday 2nd Sept.

Full details of times/venues will be available on our website as the fixtures are confirmed.

Kerry’s victory over Kildare at the weekend mattered little when the news from Salthill confirmed that Monaghan had defeated Galway – it was a disappointing end to the inaugural “Super 8s” with Kerry losing to Galway and drawing with table toppers Monaghan.

The result was quickly followed by the announcement of Eamon Fitzmaurice’s resignation from the position of bainisteoir following a six year tenure at the helm. In that time he oversaw an All Ireland win in 2014, a national league in 2017 and six Munster championships in a row – however he has now decided to move  ” “I think a change of voice and a change of direction will be good, and I also think by taking me out of the equation it can remove some of the over-the-top negativity that was coming at the team, which I feel was unfair.”

Hard luck to David who played at midfield for all the championship games,  to Barry John who was an ever present on the panel and played his part in the games against Clare, Cork and Galway and Jack who was a member of the panel also.

Congratulations to senior footballer Shane McElligott who gained an All Ireland winners medal at the weekend when part of the Kerry panel that defeated Derry in the All Ireland U-21 B hurling  final, played in Nowlan Park – Kerry were comprehensive winners over Derry.
