2016 Census Shows Slight Population Increase In Tralee Urban Area

Census figures show a slight increase in the Tralee urban area population.

PRELIMINARY findings for the 2016 national census conducted earlier this year were published yesterday and shows an increase in Tralee’s urban area population.

Since 2011, the population of the Tralee urban electoral area has grown by 4.4%, up 216 to 5,101, but the rural area has seen a minimal fall of 0.3% to 17,906.

There has also been an 4.5% increase in population in the Ballyseedy with 1,818 living there on census night.

Blennerville, at 651 people, is down 6.7%, the Clogherbrien area is down 10% to 1,481, the Ratass area is down 1.7% to 1,075, the Doon area at 692 is down 0.4%, the Ballynahaglish (Fenit) area is 1,604 up 0.3% and the Arabela area is up 7.1% to 1,381.

The population of Kerry has grown 1.4% the past five years. Kerry is now home 147,554 people, an increase of 2,052.

All census details have not been released as yet.
