PRESS INFO -- Creative Ireland Kerry Cultural Archive Awards 2017Cultural Archive AwardCreative Ireland is a Government led, interdepartmental culture based programme designed to promote individual, community and national wellbeing. Details are available at www.creativeireland.ie and https://creative.ireland.ie/en/local-plans/kerry . Within this programme, Kerry County Council, leading Creative Ireland Kerry, invited applications for a Cultural Archive Award with the aim of developing or preserving an archive with the intended cultural impact of preserving such material for future generations.The project had to satisfy a number of criteria, these included;•	To be Kerry based, it had to encourage participation from the community, allow for the long-term preservation of an archive and have outcomes that are accessible to diverse audiences and participants.•	It also had to align with one of the five pillars of the Creative Ireland programme.The process was managed by the Kerry Library Service, overseen by Tommy O’Connor, County Librarian. The presentation to successful applicants was made by Cathaoirleach of Kerry County Council Cllr. John Sheehan, joined by Cllr. Sam Locke as Chairperson for the Strategic Policy Committee that oversees Culture, Arts, Tourism and Recreation. Representatives from each successful group attended, joined by Kate Kennelly, Creative Ireland Kerry Co-ordinator and Mike Lynch, Archivist, Tralee Library.Creative Ireland Kerry is pleased to announce that awards have been made under the 2017 Cultural Archive Award scheme to the following four projects:1. Blackwater Women’s Group: for a documentary on local life - Kerry in bygone days – detailing the heritage and customs of South & West Kerry.2. An Ceolann Cultural Centre, Lixnaw: for their archive collection catalogue project. This is the first phase in making its collection publicly accessible.3. Lartigue Monorail & Museum, Listowel: for a project to catalogue and digitise its unique collection of rare archival material.4.  Scartaglin Community Group: for the Handed Down project, which intends to create an online archive of Sliabh Luachra’s rich musical heritage.Creative Ireland Kerry wish to thank all who engaged with the project, congratulations to each on the Awards winners and Kerry County Council looks forward to this programme growing under the Creative Ireland Kerry programme in the years to come.
