The Eileen Rice 'Country Against Cancer' Memorial Music Weekend' which took place in the Gleneagle Hotel, Killarney last October raised €20,000 and two charities benefitted from the event. Our photo shows Jerry Moriarty presenting €10,000 to Noreen Smiddy, of Marymount Hospice in Cork and country singer Trudi Lawlor presenting €10,000 to Breda Dyland of the Kerry Cancer Bus campaign on St. Patrick's night in the Gleneagle Hotel.
The country music weekend was organised by Jerry Moriarty, whose partner Eileen Rice died from cancer 2 years ago. “ I set it up as I lost my partner Eileen to cancer 2 years ago. Eileen loved dancing and country music and kept up her interest throughout her 2 ½ year illness. I wanted to run the event to celebrate her life while giving back to the people who helped her. One of her mantras was that “Life is for Living” and the country music weekend celebrated all that she loved” said Jerry. The three-day music event featured many country music singers including International singers Trudi Lawlor, Mike Denver and Michael English will take place again next October.
