Roses To Attend Recovery Haven’s ‘Celebration Of Light’ On Sunday Evening

At the launch of this year’s Celebration of Light were Steve Cronly (Rose of Tralee), Breda Carmody (Recovery Haven), Mags Kissane (Lakeside Cafe), Iris Barry (Choral Union) Eucharia Breen (Choral Union) Lynn Ponshard (Choral Union) Kathleen Collins (Recovery Haven) Mary O Connor (Wetlands) Tina Cunningham (Recovery Haven).

THE tranquil setting of Tralee Bay Wetlands will once again provide the stunning backdrop for this year’s Celebration of Light Ceremony, organised annually by cancer support charity Recovery Haven Kerry.

This year’s event will take place on this Sunday, August 18, at 7pm and aims to unite those touched by cancer and remember those we have lost.

The evening will be MC’d by Sean Lyons and will feature a poignant performance from the Kerry Choral Union, as well as a selection of prayers and readings from a number of special guests.

As in previous years, a number of this year’s Rose of Tralee contestants and escorts, as well as a number of former Roses of Tralee winners will attend.

The emotional lighting of candles and stones will also form part of the celebration – with the valued support of Banna Sea Rescue – with candles available to buy on the night.

The event is also being kindly supported by Mary O’Connor and her team at Tralee Bay Wetlands and Margaret Kissane of The Lakeside Café.

St Brendan’s Basketball Club News

St Brendan’s Basketball Club in Tralee have rolled out dates for this year’s Academy which starts back the week of September 9th.

The Club is now accepting new Boys and Girls who were born from 2019 onwards.

All Academy sessions take place in Moydewell Primary Hall. And Saturday and Sunday sessions will not start until October.

Training for U6 Boys and Girls born 2019/2020 will start on September 11, and continue on Wednesdays from 4.45 to 5.30pm.

U8 Girls, born 2017/2018 starts September 11, from 5.30 to 6.15pm on Wednesdays and from 10 to 11am on Sundays.

U8 Boys born 2017/2018 return on September 11 from 6.15 to 7pm on Wednesdays and from 10 to 11am on Saturdays.

U9 Girls, born in 2016 start back on September 9 – and will train on Mondays from 4.45 to 5.30pm and on Sundays from 11 to 12pm.

U9 Boys born 2016, will return on September 10 and train on Tuesdays from 4.45 to 5.30pm and on Saturday’s from 11 to 12pm.

U10 girls, born 2015, will begin on September 9 with training taking place on Mondays from 5.30 to 6.15pm and on Sunday’s from 11 to 12pm.

U10 Boys born 2015 will be back on Septmber 10 – on Tuesdays from 5.30 to 6.15pm and on Saturdays from 11 to 12pm.

Registration Fees include a club top and a basketball.

Registration for a child for the U6/8 teams costs €80 for the year – or for the U10 teams: €100 for the year.

All registered players will receive a club top and a basketball!

Kerry’s Goalkeeper Nominated For Golden Glove Award

THE All-Ireland winning Kerry goalkeeper has been nominated for the 2024 ZuCar Golden Glove award…and she needs your vote to win it!

The ZuCar Golden Glove will be presented to the goalkeeper who wins the popular vote at the Ladies Gaelic Football Association’s website page.

Kerry’s Ciara Butler, Leitrim’s Michelle Monaghan, Louth netminder Rebecca Lambe Fagan, Galway’s Dearbhla Gower and Meath captain Monica McGuirk are the five goalkeepers in with a chance of claiming the award from ZuCar, the LGFA’s Performance Partner, and sponsors of the ZuCar All-Ireland Ladies U-18 Championships and Gaelic4Teens programme.

Denny Street Stage Offers Amazing Entertainment Over Féile Thrá Lí

The crowd on Denny Street for the Sunday night entertainment in 2023.

THE fun of the festival is just. day away and while the streets all over town will be filled with music, there’s one place which will see the bulk of the crowds.

Denny Street will come alive once again with the songs of superstars thanks to some wonderful tribute acts over this weekend on the stage in front of the Ashe Memorial Hall.

Friday is going to be a special one for pop, rock and country music lovers. The fun kicks off from 8pm with the music of Tom Jones from an acclaimed tribute act.

A tribute country legend Dolly Parton by Kirsty Coard follows at 8.45pm so expect ‘Jolene’, ‘9 To 5’ and much more in the her set.

Next up is a tribute to Rod Stewart at 9.30pm, belting out hits like Maggie May, Sailing, Do Ya Think I’m Sexy and more. Finally, at 10.15pm, a Cher tribute brings the first night to a close.

The Roses will take centre stage on Saturday night but there will be music before the parade from Music Generation Kerry from 6.30pm to 8pm before an entertainer warms up the crowd for the arrival of the Roses.

After the Rose parade, the new Louis Walsh Boyband, Next In Line, will close out the night’s entertainment on Denny Street.

Sunday is the big one with The Classic Beatles taking to the stage from 7.30pm. They’ll be playing many songs from the different stages of the Liverpool band’s incredible career and it’s a must for all music fans.

And the Denny Street entertainment wouldn’t be complete without Abba tribute act Abba Gold belting out the hits to thousands of fans until 11pm.

Monday night is another one for the country music fans with Derek Ryan, supported by Sabrina Fallon, sure to get you dancing.

Tuesday night sees Spin DJs  playing tunes on the Denny Street from 8.30pm to 10pm. Then its local heroes Oracle playing until 11.45pm followed by Midnight Madness bringing the Festival to a close.

So something for everyone then on the historic street over the five days.
