NA GAEIL SENIOR: In the seventh round of the county league Na Gaeil faced Skellig Rangers in Portmagee.  The home side with the aid of a strong wind got of to an ideal start when they goaled for their opening score, a three point cushion which they were to maintain till the final whistle.

In an otherwise  fairly even contest both sides traded  score with Skellig Rangers after a late flurry of points going into the break with a lead of 01-05 to 00-03. Na Gaeil pressed hard in the second half but failed to break through the Skellig defence, with Seamie Arthurs the lead scorer for Na Gaeil contributing 06 of the Na Gaeil scores.

NA GAEIL U16: Na Gaeil hosted Dingle in round three of division 1B of the County League on Monday week last. Playing with the aid of the breeze, the visitors turned on the style from the off and looked the stronger side with three well taken points in the opening minutes  and were five points clear on the fifteenth minute before Dara Devine pointed a free for Na Gaeil.

This was a turning point for them and through hard slogging clawed back Dingles advantage. Diarmuid O’Connor’s tireless efforts set up Dara Devine for another point on the sixteenth minute and Dara pointed from a free again minutes later.  A shot at goal by Patrick Roche in the twenty third minute rebounded but was driven to the net by the ever alert Dara Devine to give them a one point lead.Three more points by the lads from the west and another from star player Diarmuid O’Connor left the narrowest of margins between the sides at half time. Na Gaeil 1-4, Dingle 0-8.

Na Gaeil drove at their opponents from the throw in and were unlucky when a great effort at goal by the hard working Niall O’Mahony went agonisingly wide. Seamus Harty was through for a certain goal minutes later when he was fouled in the square and Diarmuid O’Connor made no mistake in dispatching the ball to the net in the resulting penalty.

Tim Kelliher got his name on the score sheet with a point in the tenth minute. Both teams exchanged points for the next ten minutes but great link play from the forwards set up target man Dara Devine for a twenty fourth minute point to put Na Gaeil three points clear. Dingle always looked good and dangerous and this was proven when they sent the ball to the net in the in the dying minutes of the game to even the scores.

Despite our goalie leaving this difficult shot in Shawn Duggan had a great game between the posts tonight making some fine saves and clean catches. The final moments of the game were tense but Dara Devine settled the spectators a little with a pointed free with very little time left on the clock. A great final minute run by Rory Murphy set up Dylan Burns for a point giving Na Gaeil a narrow victory on the night.

Final score Na Gaeil 2-11(17), Dingle 1-12(15). Na Gaeil at the time of writing are due to play Firies in the last round and both should end up in the top two positions providing semi -finals with either Austin Stacks or Dr.Crokes.

NA GAEIL U14:Na Gaeil played Austin Stacks in the third round of the Central Region league lastMonday evening in Connelly Park. Na Gaeil were missing eight players from their starting fifteen on the night but despite this never gave up and gave a good performance on the night. The shortage of players meant that a number of U12 players made their U14 debuts and all gave good performances. The majority of the younger players hadn’t played on a full pitch before so this game gave them a chance to experience what to expect next year. Our round four game against Churchill hasbeen rescheduled to next week.

Panel: C Divine, O Maunsell, E Cahill, J O’Sullivan, E O’Connor, L Rice, T Walsh,  T Lynch, J Fitzgerald, P Walsh, J Sheehan, T Horgan, M Burke, D Healy, B Sugrue,S Daly, G Sheehy..

NA GAEIL U8:Our under 8 boys took part in the annual John Mitchels blitz last Saturday. The boys started the day with a game against Dr. Crokes which they lost narrowly. The second game was against Keel and our boys played very well, winning it in the end.

Further hard-fought victories were gained over Milltown/Castlemaine, Churchill & Beale. All 18 of our players got plenty of game time during the blitz and really enjoyed the experience.

For a few of our lads it was their first taste of competitive action and they improved with every game. A big thank you to our wonderful coach JJ Canty for organising the lads on Saturday & for the huge effort he puts into training every week. We’re taking a break from training for a couple of weeks so see you all again on Sunday 9th August for the Family Fun Day.

Mná Na Gaeil 2

Mná Na Gaeil ladies.

MNA NA GAEIL:Munster Mothers and Others Blitz 2015.We traveled to Mallow on Saturday for our 1st Mothers and Others Blitz. We traveled by bus to Mallow with a special thanks to Kelly’s Chemist for sponsoring the bus for us.

With a few of our players having to miss the blitz through work, other commitments and Ed Sheeran, we still managed to have 18 players going. There were high spirits as we left Tralee but nerves were starting to kick in as we were getting closer to Mallow.

We got put into a group of experienced teams St Pats( Tipperary),  Inch ( Youghal), Quarry Blues ( Macroom). We had our 1st game against St Pats which was a very tough game. Mags and Siobhan( Joint Captains) won the toss and we played with the wind. We started very nervously as we gave away a few scores but Caroline and Mags started to take control around the centre with Mary Ross,Cait, Blaithnaid and Trina starting to win ball at the backs.

Our forwards were finding their kicking boots with some fine scores from Catherine O Shea and Trina. Noelle, Heather and Sharon were being marked tightly  but we managed to squeeze the draw.

Our second game was against Quarry Blues. Siobhan played in goals and made some outstanding saves. Mary Ross played in the backs alongside Mary Sheehy, Deirdre and Susan. Mags and Agnes went into midfield with Melissa, Catherine O Connor, Catherine O Shea and Noelle in the forwards. This was a very tight game with very little chances of scores.

Blues got the 1st and only point that our backs let them get. Catherine O Connor was throwing herself on the line for the team and earned herself a free late in the game which Susan buried into the back of the net, which earned the girls their 1st win. Our last game came against Inch, Youghal, This was a tough physical physical game but as the games went on, our nerves went out the window and the confidence came in the door.

Mary Ross played in goals allowing the Terminator Siobhan to come out onto the centre of the field. Trina, Cait, Deirdre and Blaithnaid were outstanding in the backs with Susan replacing Mags ( who caught the train to Dublin to see Ed Sheeran) alongside Agnes in midfield. Noelle,Sharon, Melissa and Heather all had chances in the 1st half before Susan score a late 1st half goal.

The 2 Catherines came into the forwards in the second half alongside Mary Sheehy and Siobhan. Caroline went into midfield with Susan. Quarry Blues scored an early goal leaving us level but we laid siege to their goals for the next 10 mins before Susan scored a fine point from a line ball with only seconds left on the clock. We had a great day in Mallow and finished it with a celebratory rendition of The Rose of Tralee. We came back to the club for a great night of fun and music in the club on Saturday night.

We would also like to thank the following for their help and support : Pat Daly & Associates, CH Chemist,Noyeks, The Treasure Chest, Dillons Waste, Kelly’s Chemist, Shaws, Horans Fruit and Veg and to Sean and staff who gave us a great night in the club after the Blitz. Well done to all players who did so well considering a lot of the girls having only just started playing football for the 1st time in their lives.

Thanks also to Meagan, Sarah, Jadyn and Siena for helping out and to our supporters who traveled. And a special mention and thanks goes to Siobhan for all the hard work that she has put in behind the scenes.
