KERINS O’Rahilly’s are looking forward to their second 10k Run at the end of the month and this time finishers will be presented with a special 1916-themed medal featuring one of the men whom the club is named after.

With 400 taking part last year, organisers are hoping to exceed that number this year to raise funds for the club on January 31.

“The medal commemorates Michael O’Rahilly who fought in 1916. There’s a lot things happening this year in the GAA around the country to do with the Rising and this is our event to commemorate one of the men whom the club is named after,” said Peter Nolan, one of the organisers of the event.

“It’s a unique medal and everyone who finishes, running or walking, will receive it. It’s a real collectors item,” said Peter.

There is also a competition where clubs are invited to enter teams of four. Last year Kerry Crusaders won the men’s race and Na Gaeil ladies taking the women’s crown.

“There are seven football and running clubs entering teams so far, so it would be great to get the local clubs around town to enter team of four, with the first three home times to count. We also welcome walkers to take part in the event. At the end of the day it’s about exercise and keeping fit,” said Peter.

There will be refreshments after the event at about 12noon in the clubhouse along with the presentations.

The run takes place at 10am on Sunday, January 31 from the Clubhouse.

Registration at €20 is open now online at the Run The Kingdom website by clicking here

Registration and number collection will be open on Saturday, January 30, between 12pm and 8pm at the clubhouse and again on the day of the run between 8am to 9am in the clubhouse.
