Our U14 team continued their quest for county league glory with two games in the last week. First up was Bobcats at home in Moyderwell. Our boys controlled the game from the beginning and ran out comfortable winners against a much younger Bobcats side who will be a team to watch next year. Final score was 48-22.

St. Brendan’s 32 St. Mary’s 22

Second game of the week was against league leaders St Mary’s of Castleisland. A loss would hand St Mary’s the League and a win would give our boys the momentum in doing the double. The game started well for our boys with early baskets from Rap, Jimi and Tom Scally.

Great defensive work from Jack Bourke and Dara O’Sullivan kept the visitors at bay and we led 6-3 after the first quarter. The second quarter saw the game slow down and great defensive work from Jack Duggan meant the game was always going to be tight.

Good baskets from Peter Kearns earned St Brendan’s a 10-8 lead. The second half saw St. Brendan’s take the initiative and drive forward on offense. With captain Enda running the point and Cian Devine and Mikey McCarthy creating the scores our boys ran into a lead of 24-16 at the end of the 3rd quarter.

Tadgh Reen who had a massive game in the cup final added another great performance despite being held scoreless with his great rebounding efforts. Jack Bourke and Rap finished off the scoring and St Brendan’s capped off a great team effort with a 32-22 win.

Scorers: Rap Buivydas 14; Peter Kearns 4; Jack Bourke 4; Jimi O’Sullivan 2; Tom Scally 2;  Cian Devine 2; Enda O’Connor 2; Mikey McCarthy 2; Tadgh Reen; Dara O’Sullivan; Jack Duggan.

The win brings our record to in the league to 10-1 and we hope to see out the rest of the season in style and hopefully take home more silverware.
