ORGANISERS of the ‘5k Santa Fun Run’ have handed over a cheque of  €8,805 to Heart Children Ireland.

The Tralee ‘5k Santa Fun Run’ took place on December 13 last and raised much needed funds in memory of Fiona Moore, who sadly passed away in May 2013 while waiting for a double lung transplant.

The CEO of Heart Children Ireland, Margaret Rogers, travelled to Tralee to accept a cheque for €8,805 from  ‘5k Santa Fun Run’ organisers, Mags Quillinan, Aoife Moynihan and Deirdre and Martin Moore.

Heart Children Ireland was founded 25 years ago and to date has collected over €2.5m for the new Children’s Heart Centre located in Our Lady’s Hospital, Crumlin.

Fiona Moore’s family first met Heart Children Ireland when she was a patient in Crumlin. While there she was greatly helped by the Cardiac play therapist.

It was always a dream of Fiona’s to have a dedicated space for teenagers in the Heart Centre as she so often said “teenagers need space too”. The money raised by the Santa Run is going towards making Fiona’s dream come true.

The event was a runaway success attended by hundreds of Santas, Elves and Reindeers raising €8,805 which Heart Children Ireland have specifically set aside to get this teenage space up and running.
