OVER 20,000 cigarettes and 12 litres of wine were seized by customs officers in Tralee at the weekend.
The items were seized after a car was stopped as part of an operation into the sale and distribution of unstamped tobacco products. A follow-up search of a private house in the town led to the overall seizure of 21,900 cigarettes – branded L&M, MG and 777 with a value of €11,500 representing, a loss to revenue of €9,100 – and the 12 litres of wine.
A Croatian man in his 40s is being questioned and investigations are ongoing with a view to prosecution.
