KERRY County Council is to host workshops next week for a variety of interest groups and business and community representatives to discuss the future use of the Denny factory site which has been earmarked for redevelopment.
It comes following the close of receipt of submissions from members of the public on what should be done with the town-centre 2.3-acre site which was donated to the people of Tralee by Kerry Group in 2014.
Over 600 submissions from members of the public have been received over the past six weeks including surveys which were completed online and survey forms which were filled up and returned to the County Council.

These submissions will now be collated and categorised and the results will be presented to Tralee Municipal District councillors in the coming weeks.
“The response to the call for submissions has been absolutely fantastic with so many received in such a short time-frame,” said Mayor of Tralee, Cllr Terry O’Brien.
“When we decided to launch a six-week informal consultation we were confident that people would engage with the project and bring forward ideas for the old factory site. I look forward to studying the proposals when they are collated over the coming weeks.”
On Wednesday, September 21, Kerry County Council will host workshops for the business, education, community and private sectors to enable various representative groups and organisations to share their ideas for the Denny site. The workshops will run in the Park View Room in the Brandon Hotel from 1pm to 4pm and 5pm to 8pm.
The workshops will feature round-table discussions with groups representing community groups, businesses, older people, students, sports and recreation bodies as well as former employees of the Denny factory.
Local Authority Town Architects, Guilia Vallone (Clonakilty, Cork County Council) and Simon Wall (Westport, Mayo County Council) will be present to share their experiences of their respective town centre journeys, the works undertaken in their town centres in recent years, and the planning philosophies and management systems that informed both of these success stories.
Tralee Municipal District Manager, Mike Scannell said: “We have been greatly encouraged by the response from the public to the call for submissions. We have always been conscious that this site was donated by Kerry Group to the people of Tralee and we want them to have a sense of ownership of this development going forward. These workshops next week represent the next part of the ongoing consultation process.”
