FAOI 14: (i) AdeS: 4-13; An Ghaeltacht: 1-16. On Wednesday our As travelled to Gallarus to face An Ghaeltacht in the Division 1 County League semi-final.

In what is usually a very windy venue beside the sea, the conditions were perfect with only a light breeze….gan ann ach leoithne aniar!

We got off to a blistering start with an early goal and point as Shane Bastible set the tone for us. Both sides then exchanged scores for the rest of the half with our points coming from Shane Bastible, Adam Curran, Mervyn Shalemba and Cian Purcell.

We led by 0-5 at half time, thanks to some fine exhibitions of defending by our defence, a rearguard that never cracked under periods of intense pressure.

We got off to another blistering start in the second half with Mervyn Shalemba winning the throw-in and running through the Gaeltacht defence mar uisce trí chriathar and popping the ball over the bar.

Our lads were determined to kill off the game early and went on a 15 minute scoring rampage, scoring 3-3. However, a dubious penalty awarded to Gaeltacht gave them some hope and when the Rock lost captain Adam Curran, to a black card, the pressure was on.

Our lads defended with everything they had, with might and mane, and we held on for a comfortable 0-6 win.

An fhoireann bhuacach: Ben Quilter; Peter Kearns, Luke Chester, Daniel Breen; Dean Rusk, Adam Curran (0-1) (Conor Kavanagh); Joey Nagle; Armin Heinrich; Mervyn Shalemba (0-2) Conor Horan (Leon Gallagher), Owen Healy; Liam Tobin, Jordan Kissane (Greg Scanlon), Shane Bastible (2-5); Cian Purcell (2-5).

The final v the Dr. Croke Club…7.15pm on Wednesday 11th May in Scartaglin. (ii) AdeS: 3-8; Na Crócaigh: 4-12. On Wednesday last, our Bs travelled to Killarney to play the Dr Croke Club in their league semi-final. After a poor performance in the first half, we struck form in the second half led by Ruairí O’Connell.

Scores from Gavin Slattery (2-1) and James Charles (1-3) and a string of fine saves from goalie Seán Collins had us in touch. But, on a night in which we hit the post twice and the crossbar twice, it wasn’t to be!

Níorbh é ár n-oíche é! An scór deiridh: 4-12 to 3-8. An fhoireann mhí-ámharach: Seán Collins; Joe Reidy, Brian McElligott, Donnacha Fox; Ciarán Kelliher, Gearóid Kilgallon, Johnny Feely; Ruairí O’Connell, Evan Foley; Rian Costello, Matthew Browne, James Charles; Gavin Slattery, Dylan Hurley, Kaplan Carter-O’Flynn.(iii) We’ll train again on Sunday next in Connolly Park from 4pm to 5.30pm.

So, if you intend going along to the event, we’d be grateful if you’d purchase your tickets from the Austin Stack Club…just ‘message’ on our Facebook page or text to 086 1053300 and we’ll reserve your ticket for you. We appreciate your support.

MIND YOUR LANGUAGE! It was decided by the district board to adopt a zero tolerance to abuse and foul language being directed towards match officials at all our games. Referees will be instructed to report any form of abuse they receive and the CCCC of the Board will deal with it.

All clubs are being informed of this policy prior to the commencement of all competitions. Bheadh sé go hiontach dá gcuirfí deireadh go deo le ‘focal an tsaighdiúra’, i measc briathra agus aidiachtaí eile!!

FLEADH CHEOIL: Best wishes to club members who’ll be involved in Fleadh Cheoil Chiarraí in Tralee next week (18th – 22nd). Anybody wishing to help with stewarding would be most welcome.
