Stacks To Bid For Glory In Sligo At Féile na nÓg Tournament

THERE’S great excitement in Austin Stacks this week as youngsters prepare to head off to Sligo for the All Ireland U14 Feile football tournament.

This will be the fifth year in a row that The Rockies will travel to the Feile tournament going to Derry (2013), Galway (2014), Wexford (2015) — when they won the Division 1 title — whilst they played along with all the other Kerry clubs in Kerry last year.

The Austin Stacks squad heading to Féile this weekend. Back Row-Evan Foley, John Duggan, Conor Kirby, Joey Nagle, Conor Horan, Jordan Kissane, Brian McElligott, Armin Heinrich, Ruairi OConnell, Cian Dillane, Cillian Litchfield. Middle Row-Kevin Barry, Leon Gallacher, Enda Cahill, Josh Lynch, Dean Rusk, Ben Quilter, Shane Bastible, Gavin Slattery, Sean Collins, Gearoid Killgallon. Front Row-James Charles, Declan Lacey, Jack Doyle, Dylan Hurley, Daragh Moriarty, Michael Lesniak, Johnny Feeley, Donnacha Fox, Caydon OMahoney, Donnacha Sayers.

The Stacks will contest the elite competition along with 11 other clubs from around the country. In the opening games they will play St Eunans, Donegal with their other group opponents being Skerries of Dublin.

Dennis Sayers, Armin Heinrich, Tom Foley, Joe Smith and Edward O’Connor have been entrusted with the reins for this big tilt at national glory.

They will go into the tournament big on confidence having captured the County title with a victory over Laune Rangers in April.

Over the past month the fundraising committee of Orla Foley, Tom Quilter, Hazel Heinrich and Eileen Nagle have worked wonders in accumulating enough funds to kit, feed and transport the boys for the weekend.

This Stacks team has looked strong in local competition but this Feile adventure pits them against the best. Hopes are high that they will respond to the ultimate test.

They are one of two Tralee teams heading to Féile na nÓg, the other being Na Gaeil (more about them later.)
