BOYS AND GIRLS U10 KABB BLITZ IN CAUSEWAY

St. Brendan’s Boys U10s and Girls U10s competed in a blitz last Sunday with teams from all over Kerry at Causeway Comprehensive. It was a fantastic day of basketball action and our teams performed really well displaying their teamwork and skills to great effect. Thanks to the Boys coaches Noelle and Patrick and Girls coaches Denis and Katie.

CLUB RESULTS

Lee Strand U14 Boys Div 3

St. Brendan’s 26 TK Vixens 24

In a close fought match Brendan’s narrowly prevailed over TK Vixens in Moyderwell. Both teams got off to a slow start with neither side able to settle into the game. After a low scoring half the sides were level at 10 points apiece. The second half was another story as both sides picked it up at both ends of the court.

Brendan’s built up a 6 point lead but this was short lived as the Vixens were back on terms at three quarter time.  Midway through the fourth quarter Brendan’s were dealt a blow when Fionan Egan was forced out the game with an injury.

Brendan’s rallied and with some tough defence and great ball movement held on for the win. Top scorers for each team were Phoenix Costello with 10 for Brendan’s and Cormac O’Connor with 18 for Vixens.

The U16s had mixed fortunes last week firstly enjoying a big win over Tralee Imperials by 65-26 on Thursday and then losing out to KCYMS by 58-51 on Sunday. Despite a slow start against Imperials, St. Brendan’s got into their rhythm in the 2nd and 3rd quarters to see out the win comfortably in the final quarter by 65-26.

James Fernane and Rap Buivydas led the scoring with 16 points each. In Killorglin St. Brendan’s led against KYCMS for much of the game but the home side hit some great shots in the final quarter to pull away and win by a score of 58-51.

The team now has a 3 wins and 1 loss record and look forward to their first game in Cork Co. League away to Blue Demons on the 24th October.

With a bye in the National Cup next weekend Garvey’s Tralee Warriors will be watching with some interest to see who emerges from the meeting of KUBS and UCC Demons, as they will face the winners in the National Cup quarter final in early December.
