MASS FOR DECEASED MEMBERS: The November Mass for Deceased Members takes place on next Saturday evening (4th Nov) in Our Lady & St. Brendan’s Church at 6.30pm.

MINOR FOOTBALL: The function to honour past and present Club players who have won All Ireland Minor medals with Kerry, since the first of their 15 All Ireland Final wins away back in 1931. took place in the Clubhouse last Friday night (27th Oct).

Brilliantly organized by Mike Casey and Eamonn O’Reilly and superbly presented on the night by Andrew Morrissey and Timmy Sheehan, it was a resounding success. Past winners who are no longer with us or who could not attend were represented by family members.

Those who were present were thrilled to meet former colleagues again and had a really enjoyable night. One of the biggest ovations of the night was reserved for the oldest recipient present, Pa Fitzgerald (a winner in 1950).

Pa travelled down from his home in Adare. Another man who made the journey from further afield was Fergus Moriarty who travelled from Thurles to receive the award on behalf of his uncle, Tom (a winner in 1946).

Liam Kearns, current Tipperary SF Manager, also made the trip to town. The oldest living recipient was Joe Flaherty (also a 1946 winner) who was represented by his son, Joe.

All recipients received beautifully-carved medals with their names and the winning year etched on the back. These were presented to each player by Club Chairman, Liam Lynch. Andrew’s interviews with the recipients evoked a lot of memories down the years and were very entertaining.

The whole ceremony just took one hour and twenty minutes to undertake and that included an interval rendition of two beautiful songs by Emily Heaslip – your granddad, Liam, would be proud of you Emily.

Thanks again to everyone associated with the event, including Denis Sayers and his Bar staff, Annette Carmody and her Catering staff and of course to John Breen and Grant Crawford who will always have the venue in tip-top shape.  FOR PHOTOS OF THE NIGHT CLICK HERE
