IT had to be marked.

The last few months have been traumatic for many and with schools closing and social distancing restrictions in place, children have been having a hard time.

It’s been especially tough on sixth class pupils who were together with their classmates in March for the last time and won’t be together with the same group again.

Well, like some other schools in Tralee area, Caherleaheen NS decided to reunite them one last time on Thursday afternoon by hosting a graduation ceremony at the school playground.

Pupils came in two separate groups, at different times to receive a certificate, a booklet of their time in the school, a ‘Class of 2020’ hoodie and also to hear Principal Mary Connolly extol their individual qualities in front of their proud parents who stayed outside and observed the ceremony from behind the school gates.

The pupils themselves were seated around two metres apart observing social distancing guidelines while teaching staff were also present to make sure everything went off smoothly and safely.

“It was probably extra special this year,” said Mary Connolly. “We started off with a Zoom session with the pupils and then we organised this event. We’re all so proud of them and wish them the best in the future.”
