‘A Queen’s Speech’ is set in the world of the small town pub. It’s an offbeat comedy with plenty of twists in the tale. It’s set in the summer of 2011 when Ireland was lifted from the gloom of recession by the promise of a State visit by Queen Elizabeth II.

It features a community cast of veteran performers and new talent including David Hobbert, Tadhg O’Regan, Ciara Prendeville and Chris Carmody who previously performed with Lixnaw Drama Group.

Director and playwright Mike O’Halloran has been involved in drama for many years appearing with groups including The Group Theatre Tralee, Pheonix Production’s, Zyber Theatre.

His interest in theatre takes him to London several times a year to view the latest drama in The National Theatre or other venues like Donmar Warehouse Theatre. He recently directed ‘Ballymacandy’ which enjoyed a sellout run in Milltown.

Many people know Mike from his other passion, sport and his radio work on Radio Kerry Sport.

“I had done nothing in drama for three years due to Covid and was reticent about going back to the theatre until Owen O’Shea and myself got to work on Ballymacandy,” said Mike.

“It relit the interest in drama and rather than put on one of my new plays I said I’d ease myself back into drama with a play we did before,” he added.

Tickets available by texting 0863116077. Admission is €15. Contributions will be made to Kerry Hospice, Recovery Haven and the Milltown Scout Group.
