THE number of new car registrations in Kerry last month was down over 22% compared to January 2019, but this was expected due to the COVID-19 restrictions.
Figures from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry show there were 550 new cars sold in January, compared to 707 in the same month last year (down 22.21%).
Last month, Toyota was the top selling make in the county with 84 units sold, followed by Ford (70), Hyundai (67), Volkswagen (56) and Peugeot (54).

The Hyundai Tucson was the top selling model (46 units) followed by the Ford Focus (23) the Ford Kuga and Toyota Corolla (both 21), the Peugeot 3008 and Toyota Rav 4 (both 19) and Toyota CHR and Kia Sportage (both 18)
Diesel cars were the biggest sellers at 236 followed by petrol cars at 160, petrol-electric 97, electric 21, petrol/plug-in electric hybrid 18 and diesel-electric 18.
Sales of diesel-electric cars were up 500% on January 2020 and petrol-plug-in electric hybrid sales up 100%.
