The Hall of Fame Recipient this year was Paddy Walshe. Born in 1947, this hurling stalwart started out his playing career at a young age, in the early 1950s.

Following success at various levels underage, this man went onto have an illustrious playing and management career with the club at Senior level. In 1965, he lined out between the posts on the Killahan team that won the N.K. Intermediate League for the very first time.

In 1971, he was sub-goalie on the Abbeydorney team that lost out to Kilmoyley in the Co. Senior C’Ship final. Mr. Paddy Walshe went on to play a most significant part in determining the outcome of the eagerly-awaited 1974 Co. C’Ship Final.

As John Barry, Austin Stacks and Sports Editor with The Kerryman at the time said: “I never saw a man make so many impossible saves as O’Dorney goalkeeper Paddy Walsh did that day; then Jackie Condon put three in the net at the other end, that finished us off.”

While the pinnacle of his playing career was conceivably winning the 1974 Co. Senior Hurling C’Ship, his hurling achievements did not stop there. He returned once again to his native club in the 90’s and in 1999 he was selector with the Minor C’Ship winning side. In 2000 he managed the Junior team to County C’Ship success and became the club’s most successful manager when the team completed the historic 3-in-a-row in 2002.

Congratulations to all award recipients and also to everyone who supported the event on the night.
