AN award-winning film will be screened at venues in Tralee and Listowel next week.

‘The Silver Branch’ depicts the life and insights of the inimitable philosopher, poet, and fifth-generation farmer, Patrick McCormack, owner of ‘Fr Ted’s House’ in the beautiful, austere Burren, Western Ireland.

It will be shown in St John’s Listowel on Tuesday, October 23 at 8pm and on Wednesday, October 24 in Siamsa Tire at 8pm.

Patrick longs to farm in the quite space his ascendants did, to be free and to live in harmony with the landscape.

Patrick is the perfect hero, a rugged Burren man with a vision and is willing to risk all when he’s called to Battle in the Supreme courts to decide on the fate of this iconic wilderness.

Though it is centred around this remarkable man and his search for ‘unity of being’, it explores more universal themes of life, love, family, grief, of commitment and of the struggles of modern day life.

The Silver Branch premiered at The Galway Film Fleadh 2017 and is still on the International Film Circuit; this October alone, it will screen in Princeton, Washington, Nova Scotia, Maryland, Ontario, Leeds and Innsbruck and Banff.

Actor Brendan Gleeson described it as “Magical … a unique and an important cinematic gift. It is film making as it should be in Ireland today, finding the universal in the local with a sure-footedness that is most unusual.”
