NA Gaeil ladies football team is flying at the moment and after winning the Munster Intermediate title a couple of weeks ago, now the quest is on for an All-Ireland title.

Unfortunately though, the next step sees them having to travel to either Edinburgh or London so it’s suddenly become an expensive business. To that end, AIB have stepped up to sponsor one of their players and thus contribute a little to the cause.

“It’s a fantastic achievement by Na Gaeil and it’s great to see them advance to the All-Ireland Quarter-Final,” said Tralee Branch Manager, Stephen Stack. “They have a bit of travelling to do and we’re delighted to be one of the sponsors for the players. They have the good wishes of all the staff here in AIB and the silverware they have already collected is testament to the work going on. We want to which them the best in representing the town and we’re delighted to support them.”

The manager of the team, Eddie Sheehy, expressed his gratitude to AIB Tralee and hopes some more businesses get on board to help them.

“We only have a week to organise travel to the game which will be played in London or Edinburgh. We’re trying to get businesses around town to sponsor the players as there big expense involved in getting the team to the game and for accommodation — between €10,000 and €12,000. The club has been 100% behind us, they’ve been a great help because it’s not easy in such a short space of time.”

It’s been quite a few years for the ladies club which will play in the senior championship next year.

“We won the Munster Junior and All-Ireland Final in 2013 and we were in the Munster Intermediate semi-final in 2015 so we’ve been building and building since, working hard. In 2015 we had a fairly young team, but there is a mix now and there’s great experience among the players.  Senior level next year is a big step up but we’re looking forward to the challenge,” said Eddie.

We wish them the best of luck in their endeavours. If any business wants to get involved in sponsoring one of the players, you can contact Eddie Sheehy 087 679 1460.
