AND so it finishes where it started.

Ann Dillon said her goodbyes to pupils and staff at Presentation Primary on Friday after 25 years teaching at the school.

Ann (née Sheehy) was no stranger when she arrived to teach there in 1996, as she grew up only a stone’s throw away in Boherbee and, like her mother, was educated in both Presentation Primary and Secondary schools.

Ann went to Carysfort College in Dublin and started her teaching career in that city in the mid-80s. She took a career break when she married husband Patrick and had a family, twin girls Katie and Claire.

She got a teaching post in Presentation Primary a quarter of a century ago and has enjoyed her time at the school, mostly teaching the junior classes.

“I’ve loved teaching, I’ve always wanted to be one and never regretted it, but it’s my time now,” said Ann.

It’s been an eventful end to her career with the challenges the COVID pandemic presented.

“It’s been a very tough time, I learned an awful lot though with having to teach online, but it all went well,” said Ann.

So any plans for retirement?

“No, I just want to relax and have some ‘me’ time…maybe a bit of travelling when we can,” said Ann, who added she will miss the staff and pupils at the school.
