AONTÚ Chiarraí has selected Mary Fitzgibbon from Ballymacelligott to run in the Tralee LEA and Sonny Foran from Causeway to run in the Listowel LEA in the forthcoming elections, at a Convention held at the Meadowlands Hotel last night.

The Convention was chaired by Cathaoirleach of Aontú Chiarraí, Risteárd Ó Fuaráin, who paid tribute to the party members who have worked so hard to develop the party in such a short period of time.

Aontú, founded by former Sinn Féin Deputy Peadar Tóibín, is an all-Ireland political party that was formally launched in January 2019, and operates in both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Mary Fitzgibbon, a mother of five who is a lecturer in Nursing and Health Care Sciences at Institute of Technology, Tralee, said that it was an honour to have been selected by Aontú and that she would use her experience in both education and health care to stand up for all citizens under the Aontú banner of ‘Life, Unity and Justice.’

Sonny Foran, who is a father of four and works as a Health Care Assistant at the Bons Secours Hospital in Tralee — having previously worked as a building contractor and publican — said he was privileged to have been selected by the membership and said that he would use his experience in business, construction, health care and community activism to highlight the issues of importance in the community.

Aontú Leader Peadar Tóibín welcomed the ratification of Mary and Sonny and said that they were people of strong principle who would make excellent representatives for their respective constituencies.
