The damaged defibrillator case on The Mall.

GARDAI are appealing for information after the cabinet for the recently installed defibrillator on The Mall was vandalised on Saturday night/Sunday morning.

Tralee First Responders put up photos of the damage on their facebook page on Sunday afternoon.

The glass on the cabinet was broken, but the defibrillator itself was not damaged. They have taken the defibrillator out of commission for the next few days as a result of the damage.

The defibrillator was only installed on The Mall in the past few weeks due to the fundraising efforts of Tralee woman Audrey Moran, after her sister Therese O’Brien’s life was saved thanks to a defibrillator on Ashe Street earlier this year.

Eileen Whelan of Paco on The Mall hosted a fundraiser earlier this year which eventually raised nearly €7,000 to buy four defibrillators, thanks to the generosity of the people of Tralee.

Both Eileen and Audrey were on Radio Kerry this afternoon expressing their anger and exasperation at what happened at the weekend and urged the person responsible to come forward.

If anyone has any information in relation to the vandalism they are asked to contact Tralee Gardai on 066 71 02300.
