SENIOR FOOTBALL. Our senior team opened their Division 3 campaign with a home game against Glenflesk. A strong wind and heavy ground was not conducive to free flowing football. Glenflesk played with the wind in the first half and lead by 9 points to 1 at half time.

Our only score of the half  coming from David Griffin with the help of the upright.  We played much better in the second half, dominating possession. 2 pointed frees from Bobby Regan, 3 points from John Egan (2 from frees) and 1 from substitute Paudie Carroll brought the difference back to 2.  We had a number of  goal chances in the second but the Glenflesk goalie was the difference between the 2 teams making 3 point blank saves. Final score Ardfert 0-7 Glenflesk 0-9
Best of luck in Round 2 away to Keel on Sunday 15th March.

MINOR FOOTBALL: Our minors played John Mitchels in the first round of the county league on Saturday in Caherslee. Played in terrible conditions, both teams struggled to score. 25 minutes into the first half Ardfert led 2 points to 1. A 5 minute spell of direct football led to 3 goals for Ardfert. In the first 10 minutes of the second half and Mitchels threw everything they had at us but some great defending and excellent use of the handpass to hold possession resulted in two points for us. Final score Ardfert 3-5 John Mitchels 0-2.

Our next game is away to Castleisland Desmonds on Saturday 14th. Training continues on Tuesday and Friday nights.

JUVENILE TRAINING AND UPCOMING GAMES:
U16 training continues on Wednesday evenings at the earlier time of 6-7pm at CBS The Green.
U14: Our U14s 2020 campaign got off to a great start with a hard earned win against our near neighbours Churchill on Monday night in the Suits Select Tralee Town League Div 1. The game was played under lights at John Mitchel’s in very poor weather conditions. Ardfert dominated the opening exchanges and some excellent points from our forwards saw us run up an early lead. However a couple of quick goals brought Churchill right back into the game   Churchill hit a purple patch in the middle of the half and they ran up a 6 point lead. However goals from substitute Ruairí O’Halloran and corner forward Shayne Stack levelled things up. A goal for Churchill just before half time gave our opponents a 3 point advantage at half time.

In the second half Ardfert upped the tempo and put a lot of pressure on the Churchill kickouts and this payed off with some fine point scoring from our lads. Further goals from Keelin Best and a second for Shayne Stack gave us a nice cushion heading towards the final few minutes of the match. Despite some last minute pressure from our opponents, our lads held on to win on a final score line of 4-14 to 4-09.

Our next game is at home to Ballymac on Sunday 15th March at 11am. Training continues on Saturday 4-5pm at The Green astro turf.

U12 Outdoor training continues from 7-8pm on Friday evening at Banna astro turf.
U10 & U8 training starts on Saturday 14th March at Banna astro turf. U8 from 4-5pm & U10 from 5-6pm.
