Johnny has since been released from hospital but needs 24 hour care and due to his injuries may not be able to return home for up to 12 months.

With bills mounting fast, friends and family, have rallied around to hold a fundraiser for the former Ballyheigue hurler who is a supporter of the local GAA scene in the US.

Organisers understand many people have already donated to the cause, so on the night they will have a casual bucket collection in all pubs in the village. There will also be a raffle with some great prizes up for grabs.

DJ Big Jim, will spin the tunes from 9pm in McElligotts Bar in Ardfert. Fancy dress is optional, but there will be a prize for the best costume so it might be worth your while to rock down in full ‘Dallas’ shoulder pads mode.
