A MAN armed with a hammer attempted a smash and grab robbery on a Tralee jewellery shop on Monday.
The incident occurred on Monday evening at John Fitzgerald Jewellers in The Square. A man repeatedly banged the hammer against the glass window in a bid to break in and steal the valuables.
When he failed, he ran up Milk Market Lane away from the scene, and has yet to be caught.
The glass was reinforced and only cracked so he wasn’t able to get his hands on the jewellery. The owners, John and Kay Fitzgerald, were in the shop at the time serving customers.
There were a number of witnesses who saw the man observing the shop for some time, while wearing a scarf and hat to cover his face.
They are helping the Gardaí in their investigations.
