David and Paddy Barry presented the Jimmy Barry Memorial Cup to Barry Laide, captaen na foirne Faoi 6. Lá dár saol a bhí ann! The future of the ‘Black’n’Amber’ looks brighter than ever! Nóta: The singing of ‘Amhrán na bhFiann’ by the young footballers in Caherslee was the very best ever by our underage footballers!

PEIL FAOI 10: The inaugural John Lynch Tournament for Under 10 Football was held at Connolly Park on Sunday. 4 clubs were involved: Kilmacud Crokes, Ballymacelligott, Churchill and Na Stacaigh féin. Each club fielded 3 teams. The John Lynch Memorial Cup was won by Kilmacud Crokes and was presented to the winning captain, Matthew Blacker, by Phil Lynch (wife of the late John Lynch) and by Liam Lynch (our vice-chairman). Our own boys won the Shield. Well done, Rockmen! Though not reaching the top spots, Ballymac and Churchill performed admirably.

PEIL FAOI 10/11: On Saturday last our boys made the annual visit to Cork’s Club na bPiarsach for the annual Under 11 Dee O’Leary Tournament and exhibited lovely Kerry football. Well done, boys! Thanks to the Under 10s who took on the challenge and fitted in well and played well with the team. Mórbhuíochas to Kevin Barry who provided well deserved refreshments for the boys. That brings an end to the U11 and U12 games for the season. Well done to all…to players, parents, fans and mentors. Maith sibh, a dhaoine uaisle!

PEIL FAOI 13: A long long season came to a pleasant end in glorious sunshine on a July-like Sunday morning in Caherslee where we took on Na Gaeil in the Town Championship Final. Having played the boys from Killeen a number of times this year and, having lost by a few points on each occasion, our lads were fired up to finish 2015 on a high!

Straight from the throw-in Greg Scanlon pointed and followed with another…and a rock solid foundation had been cemented! Then an Adam Curran high ball into the parallelogram deceived full-back and ‘keeper and landed in the net.

Tús maith, says you….a 1-2 v 0-1 lead! We never gave up that lead, due in no small part, to the close marking and tough tackling of the Rock defenders who were led by Captain Luke Chester, ably assisted by Peter Kearns, Daniel Breen, Armin Heinrich and Joey Nagle. Points were exchanged, ours coming from the powerful Shane Bastible and the classy Cian Purcell. Mighty!

Ach…but then three wides in three minutes by our lads and three points by the opposition had us under pressure until we made a surging run that led to panic in the Oakpark defence and Owen Healy got a toe to the leather and finished to the net. The opposition pointed once more before the break but two points in the last minute of the half from Adam Curran and Shane Bastible gave us a 2-6 to 0-7 lead ag am sosa.

Nathan Holden dropped back from the half-forward line to half-back line at the start of the second half to deal with a speed merchant and Conor Horan filled that attacking spot admirably and he drove forward at every opportunity.

Owen Healy was first to point and Cian Purcell finished a lovely passing move with an inch perfect shot in the back of the net to put us 9 gcúilín clear. Before Cian pointed again in the 42nd minute, Na Gaeil had fought back with 1-2 and it could have been more but for a full stretch dive and great block from Joey Nagle and fine goalkeeping by Ben Quilter.

We were guilty of some poor finishing…three goal chances and five bad wides…but, with Adam and Mervyn Shalemba still full of running and vocal support giving great encouragement (well done, fans!), the lads pushed on and Cian Purcell put a clabhsúr on the game with two more fine points to cap a ‘Man-of-the-Match’ performance.

Luke Chester accepted the Cup from Paul Hayes who did a fine job refereeing (as always) and thanked all before and after him.

Credit to a fine Gaeil team who will no doubt be back again and again in finals. We wish Connor Kavanagh, Niall Fitzmaurice and James Fernane a speedy recovery from injury. The season is now over and we’ll take a few weeks off before the prep begins for Féile Chiarraí ’16!!

Thanks to all the squad and to their parents, followers and drivers for the big support….encouragement, washing, diet, getting the lads to training and to games. Buíochas mór to Ronan and Johnny for all the help.
