Austin StacksJUVENILE CLUB NOTES

ÁR LAOCHRA FAOI 14: What a weekend! We took on the best at Féile na nÓg in Wicklow, in Carlow and in Wexford…and won!

After 6 hard games we returned to The Rock as champions of Ireland. Gaiscígh na Ríochta! What a proud homecoming for Dara de Barra-Breathnach and his team on Sunday night! Cuireadh fáilte Uí Cheallaigh roimh na himreoirí.

Labhair cathaoirleach an chlub, Aidan O’Connor, go mórtasach agus go spreagúil. In his welcoming address, Aidan encouraged the players to work together, to play together and to look out for each other within the GAA family.

Dara, the captain, very capably addressed the gathering agus ghabh sé buíochas le gach duine. It was one of those Black’n’Amber nights of glory! And the finger food added to the occasion!

Our youngsters had played their first 3 games in the ‘Garden County’, the ¼-final in Carlow and the ½-final and final in the ‘Model County’…at the Ferns (WX) Centre of Excellence.

A lot of football; a lot of travelling by the River Slaney…from Log na Coille in the Wicklow Mountains to Mount Leinster in the Blackstairs; a lot of energy; a lot enjoyment!

The results: (i) AdeS: 2-6; Ballynastragh (WX): 1-8; (ii) AdeS: 5-9; Ballyna (KE): 2-2; (iii) AdeS: 3-3; Dunlavin (WW): 0-9. ¼-final: AdeS: 1-6; Fenagh (CW): 1-5. ½-final: AdeS: 1-6; New York (USA): 1-1. Final (+ extra time): AdeS: 2-10; Naomh Éanna (WX): 1-6.

Thanks to our welcoming Dunlavin (the St Nicholas Club) hosts, who will always be special in our memories! Comhghairdeachas le peileadóirí iontacha, le meantóirí/bainisteoirí díograiseacha agus le tuismitheoirí dílse! Mentors: Tim McMahon, Dave Scanlon, Seán Purcell (who missed the final as he came home to play for the senior B team; he injured a finger in the game; we wish him a speedy recovery), Éamonn Linnane, Ronan Kavanagh and Johnny Chester…successful and satisfied!
