Austin Stacks CrestSTACKS JUVENILES NOTES

U14 FOOTBALL
U14 Central League Final: we retained our Central League Div 1 title after a hard fought win over Laune Rangers in Currow last Monday. After fifteen minutes of end to end action the sides were level 5 points apiece with our scores coming from Conor Myers 3, and 1 each from Joe Bastible and Padraic Linnane.

A much improved second quarter started with a long range free from Sean Quilter, a left legged point from Myers before three goal chances in three minutes with Joe Bastible firing into the bottom corner.

Conor was again unlucky when he flicked the ball onto the crossbar and Jordan Barry took the paint off the post with a cross goal shot but Padraic Linnane found the net after a fabulous run through the Rangers defence.

Two more Myers points had us ahead 2-10 to 1-7 at the break.
Rangers then threw everything at us but when David Oba was ‘Black Carded’ after Gearoid Hassett had rounded him in the second minute of the half things looked ominous. Jordan Barry took the No.1 jersey and on came Liam Nolan.

A purple patch from Killorglin with 4 in 5 minutes had us on the ropes but a Liam Nolan goal gave us a much needed lift and with Dara Barry Walsh, Captain Eoghan Carroll and Padraic Linnane superb in defence we pushed on.

Craig Teahan and Luke Chester had by now steadied the back line and in the final quarter we outscored Rangers 2-4 to 3pts with Joe Bastible and Conor Myers both finding the net and Nolan and Quilter both pointing twice.

In midfield both Leon Shalemba and Sean Quilter did well with Daniel O Rourke as always taking on the whole halfback line and taking some heavy knocks in the process. Cian Purcell and James Fernane supplied some lovely passes and worked hard. Adam Curran was his usual tenacious self mopping up any loose ball.

This was p robably the best performance of the year in a year of so much success but Laune Rangers are a top side at this age and1 we will have plenty more finals against them in the years to come, hopefully !

Captain Eoghan Carroll received the Division 1 trophy and as quiet as he is he still managed a fine speech !! Leon Shalemba was awarded the Man of the Match after a lung bursting performance. Thanks again to the Central league committee and Damien McCarthy for all the calls and texts.

Final Score Austin Stacks 5-15 Laune Rangers 2-14.
Next up is the Town Championship over the next three Wednesdays when we are away to Churchill, home to Strand Rd and away to Na Gaeil.
