SCÓR: (i) ‘Well done’ to our club members who participated in the Kerry county finals of Scór na nÓg on Saturday last. Five top-class singers performed to an extremely high standard. Our solo singer was Ella Nic Gabhann (Smith) who could be considered a little unlucky in not being a medal winner.

Our ballad singers, Emily Heaslip, Amy Ní Neachtain, Ciara Ní Mhathúna, Emma Ní Loingsigh and Ella Nic Gabhann, gave wonderful renditions of ‘An Crann Úll’ and ‘The West’s Asleep’ and their wonderful harmonies certainly put them among the best but the balladeers from Gleann Fleisce won the day and will be Kerry’s representatives in ‘Munster’.

We thank our ‘Black’n’Amber’ girls for their hard work and unbelievable dedication. We trust that they’ll be available to go a step higher an bhliain seo chugainn. Ár mórbhuíochas, leis, le Kathryn Mhic Gabhann, máistreás an cheoil, a dhein obair iontach leis na cailíní. Thanks to John Breen who looked after them for practices.

The Scór na nÓg audience was treated to two hours of wonderful music, song and dance as well as fifteen minutes of fun and respectable comedy from the successful Na Gaeil performers.

The various styles of music and dance were truly Irish and over a dozen songs were sung in the youngsters’ own accents without a single hint of ‘put-on’ British or American singing ‘twangs’ that are so painfully commonplace around us.

Coiste Scór Chiarraí is to be congratulated on providing such a platform for our members! Gura fada buan iad.

(ii) It’s now time for our seniors (17 to 107 years of age!!) to have a go! Will we have a figure dance, a set, a table quiz team, bailéadghrúpa, amhránaí, grúpa ceoil, srl?
