PEILEADÓIRÍ FAOI 6: The Under 6 highlight of the year, our award presentation ceremony, will take place at 11am on Sunday next, 10ú lá de Mhí na Nollag, in Connolly Park. It will be an exciting occasion for all the lads…and all their fans!
PEILEADÓIRÍ FAOI 8: Our Under 8 boys will have their presentation ceremony in the clubhouse at 11.45am on Sunday December 10th. Ócáid iontach a bheidh ann d’óg is d’aosta!
PEILEADÓIRÍ FAOI 10: The Under 10 football tournament specialists (John Lynch and John Mitchel Club Tournaments) will have their ceremony at 12.30pm on Sunday next, 10ú Nollaig. Great excitement awaits!
PEILEADÓIRÍ FAOI 14: On Sunday last our Under 14 boys were presented with their well-deserved awards for outstanding performances in the Central District, the County and the Féile games.
The occasion was a great success and was enjoyed by all players, enthusiastic mentors, proud parents agus an lucht leanúna. Mórbhuíochas to all who attended. And a special ‘thanks’ to everyone who took part in great sessions and mighty games and helped to make this season a memorable one! 2017 is a year with lovely memories!

CONNOLLY PARK? An Cruaghort? Na Cruaghoirt? Cá bhfuil sé/siad? Do you know that we play our football and hurling in An Cruaghort or Na Cruaghoirt? That’s the original name (in old maps) for the area: crua = hard; gort = field; goirt = fields.

AN RAIBH ‘FHIOS AGAT? At a meeting in Loughrea, County Galway, in August 1884, Michael Cusack (Clareman, teacher, sportsman and nationalist) outlined his plans to a group of local athletics enthusiasts. He hoped to establish, he explained, a national organisation for Irish athletes and, as well as that, to revive hurling, the most skilful game of all. Though living in Dublin at the time, he continued the work of convincing others of the need for and usefulness of such an organisation.
Thosaigh sé ag scríobh litreacha. (He had no phone, no mobile, no internet!) He sent letters to many people, inviting them to attend a meeting in Durlas Éile (Thurles). On 1st November 1884 (123 years ago), the Gaelic Athletic Association was founded in Miss Hayes’ Commercial Hotel, Thurles, Co. Tipperary, by Michael Cusack and Maurice Davin (a Tipperary man and Ireland’s most famous athlete ag an am sin).
Other founding members present were John Wyse-Power, John McKay, J.K. Bracken, Joseph O’Ryan and Thomas St George McCarthy. Many of the seven men who attended the meeting were Fenians. Patrick W. Nally from Mayo (the Nally Stand!), a keen athlete and leading IRB organiser, also played a prominent role in bringing about the birth of the GAA. It was he who suggested founding the organisation to Cusack; he wasn’t present at the Thurles meeting. Roghnaíodh Maurice Davin mar uachtarán…an chéad uachtarán ar Chumann Lúthchleas Gael.
