PAUL LUCEY RUN: Our inaugural 5/10km Paul Lucey Memorial Walk/Run for The Rock will take place on May 7th which is earmarked as ‘Lá na gClub(anna)’. It promises to be a big club day! It is hoped that anybody who has any association with the club will participate in this event. If interested, one may register online via our Facebook page or one may register on the day.

SCOLÁIREACHTAÍ GAELTACHTA: Scoláireachtaí Gaeltachta are funded by Coistí CLG (Munster Council, Kerry County Board and Tralee District Board) to give some financial help to students who wish to spend time in the Corca Dhuibhne Gaeltacht, West Kerry, during the summer holidays. If you wish your child to avail of the scholarship, please apply immediately by texting your child’s name and your e-mail address to 087 6606693.

Beidh fáilte romhat/romhaibh. All applicants must be registered members of the club….juvenile or ladies. This is a special year for attending a Gaeltacht summer course as 2018 is Bliain na Gaeilge!

PEIL FAOI 6/8/10: We had a great turnout from all teams for our annual trip to the Legion Club. The outing was a great success and was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Mórbhbuíochas le gach duine, go mór mór na tiománaithe. The Killarney boys will return to Connolly Park in September.

PEIL FAOI 12: (i) Our first U12 Lee Strand County League game (Division 9)….Ballydonoghue: 1-0; AdeS: 4-15. (ii) We played the Division 1A and 1B games away v Kilcummin. (a) The A game was won by ‘The Street of Champions’. Scór deiridh-: AdeS: 5-15; Cill Chuimín: 1-7. (b) The B team boys got their County League (Division1B) campaign off to a flying start on a heavy pitch in Kilcummin.

Within 5 minutes they had bagged 3 goals….2-0 from Thomas (one from a free) and 1-0 from Ryan McMahon. Then Leon pointed. However, after weathering the initial Rock pressure, Kilcummin responded with 0-2. Shortly after, Jake scored a fine 0-1 and Ryan cooly followed with another. Scór leathama: 3-3 to 0-2.

The East Kerry lads came out fighting in the second half and immediately scored a fine point. Because of the heavy surface it took a while for more scores to come but The Rock popped over 0-3….0-2 by Thomas and 0-1 by Jake. Kilcummin responded with a goal, following sustained pressure during which Conor Galvin pulled off some fine saves.

Defenders Tomas, Brendan, Max and Liam fought hard and regained control with Fionán, who was always available and who gained a lot of possession, providing a formidable screen from midfield. Ciarán came back on at midfield, after a break, and helped to win back control of this vital sector, getting on a lot of ball to restore supply and to enable the sharp forwards to keep the scoreboard ticking over!

Substitutes were introduced throughout a very physical game to relieve tired legs. Jody scored 2-1 on his competitive debut and David, Cormac and Naoude worked tirelessly to keep the ‘Black’nAmber’ in control. The Rock finished the game on the attack with halfbacks Liam (free) and Max adding points before Jody finished off the scoring with a pointed free to cement a satisfactory victory. Scór deiridh:- Cill Chuimín: 1-3; Na Stacaigh: 5-9. Toradh iontach!

(c) Our U12 C game (County League, Division 9) was played v Asdee/Ballylongford in the J.Walsh Park, Ballylongford, on Sunday last (15th).

Well done to our lads who had a good win. Excellent performances right across the team saw our lads victorious on a scoreline of 5-19 to 3-3. The level of improvement and commitment was very evident and all had a tremendously enjoyable trip. Great football played by all! D’imir ár leaideanna peil den scoth! (iii) We played more Division 1A and 1B games at home v Laune Rangers at 6.30pm on Tuesday last (17th)….Results next week. (iv) This coming weekend we will play at home v Rathmore (A and B). The game will take place on Sunday at 6.30pm. Our C team will challenge Ballyheigue on the same evening. Go n-éirí go geal libh, a pheileadóirí na Carraige!

PEIL FAOI 14: (i) The Group stages of the Lee Strand Féile Peile na nÓg (2018) took place on Wednesday last at various venues around the county. The Rock team was based in Connolly Park v Moyvane, Ballymac and Ardfert. We had a comfortable win against Moyvane in our opening game but came up just a point short against Ballymac in our second game….a game we probably should have won! Our last game was a do-or-die encounter against a very strong Ardfert side but, with a fantastic team performance in the failing light, we ran out with a 0-3 victory.

]We advanced to this year’s Féile Peile na nÓg semi-final v Gleann Fleisce and our game has been rescheduled (unavailability of pitches) and will be played this coming SATURDAY (21st) in our own Connolly Park. In the other semi-final Ballmac will challenge Laune Rangers. (ii) Our indoor training will be in the club gym on Thursday from 6.30pm to 7.30pm. Bígí i láthair, le bhur dtoil. (iii) County League: (a) Our B team had a very convincing (away) victory over Strand Road in the County League on Wednesday the 4th.

We were looking for an improved performance after our last rather lacklustre display and we got our answer in spades. The overall team performance was impressive, to say the least, and great credit is due to the lads for putting in the hard graft. We had a great indoor session with Damian and Aoife from EFitness at the John Mitchel Club Complex last Thursday evening and, hopefully agus le cúnamh Dé, the lads have been practising some of the exercises and stretches they were shown.

(b) Our second team’s County League (Division 9) match vLegion is being rescheduled. Meanwhile, our boys were scheduled to play away v Ballymac on Thursday evening and….NB….lifts required, please. Expect text.

PEIL FAOI 16: (i) Training for our Under 16 players will take place on Fridays and on Sundays. (ii) Our As had a good win in Gallaras v An Ghaeltacht (6-7 to 0-13) and our B team performed commendably against Club Naomh Pádraig. (iii) Then we faced Na Gaeil and lost (1-11 v 2-14) agus thugamar aghaidh ar an An Daingean. (iii) Our A Boys (Division 1) played away v Ballymac last Monday April 16th.

SEANFHOCAIL: (i) Bainne i ndiaidh feola agus uisce i ndiaidh éisc (drink milk after eating meat and water after fish); (ii) Pós idir chiall agus foghar (marry a person who is sensible and sound in character).

MIONÚIR NA RÍOCHTA: Comhghairdeachas le Seán Cuiltéir a tháinig ar an bpáirc v Tiobraid Árann agus a scóráil 0-1 (45’).
