Austin StacksSENIOR FOOTBALL: Austin Stacks 5-20; Ballymac 1-7.

Our Senior squad had a good work-out in Ballymac on this Sunday afternoon (7th Dec) in the Tralee District Championship semi final. The opposition were not at full strength and despite the heavy hail showers during the game both sides played some good open football.

We scored 2-10 in the 1st half (to 1-4 for Ballymac) and 3-10 in the second period. Darren Tiernan did what very few have done at Senior level – scored a hat trick of goals. He becomes only the 4th player at Senior level to achieve this in the past 23 years. The last to do it was Darragh O’Brien in a Co. League game in May 2012. Before that David Hennebery did it in a 2008 Town League game and we have to go back to June 1991 to find Owen Moynihan doing it in a Co. League game against John Mitchels.

Shane Carroll and late substitute, Conor Jordan were our other goalscorers in Sunday’s game.
Mitchels and O’Rahillys could not be separated in the second semi final, even after extra time, so the final is not likely to be played now on this side of Christmas.

Team: Jonathan Conway, Eoghan McKivergan, Barry Walsh, Nicholas Gogarty, Pa McCarthy (0-4), Ciarán O’Connell (0-1), Denis McElligott, William Kirby, Michael O’Donnell (0-2), Seán Ryan (0-1), ShaneCarroll (1-2 – 1 free), Alan Duggan (0-1), Darragh Long(0-5), Darren Tiernan (3-2), David Mannix (0-2).
Subs used: Paul Galvin (ht), Shane Crowley (ht), Barry Shanahan (ht), Alan Crean (39m), Greg Horan (43m), Conor Jordan (48m) (1-0).

CONGRATULATIONS: And while we are on our senior footballers let us offer congratulations to team Manager, Stephen Stack and his wife Siobhán on the birth of a new baby girl last week – Saoirse Cáit Stack – a sister for Muiris and Peadar.

SUCCESS: Has it happened before in the same year? In Munster Kerry won the Senior, Junior and Minor Football Championships. In the Munster Club Football Championships all three grades have now been won by Kerry Clubs – first the Rock and Ardfert at Senior and Intermediate levels and now last Sunday Brosna completed the trio by winning the Junior Final.

Congratulations to Ardfert and Brosna and let’s hope that all three Clubs have further success in the All Ireland Championships in the New Year.
