SENIOR FOOTBALL: The Co. League fixtures for the coming season have been published.

This year our Seniors will have six home games and five away, while our B team, who play in an extended Division 5 (13 teams), will have 6 games at home and 6 away.

Both sides are at home on the opening week-end (19th March) against Dr. Crokes and Moyvane respectively. Although it’s hard to see the Crokes game going ahead as scheduled if the Killarney boys get through to  the Club Final, which would be played two days before (17th March).

In the meantime our Seniors will have to concentrate on the Town League which gets underway on Sunday week next. All our games are on consecutive Sundays at 12.30pm – R1 away to Ballymac (29th Jan); R2 at home to John Mitchels (5th Feb); R3 away to Kerins O’Rahillys (12th Feb); and R4 at home to Na Gaeil (19th Feb). The final is fixed for the weekend of 5th March.

WELL DONE: to Ronan Shanahan who performed very well when he came on as a second half sub in Kerry’s SF win over Cork in Mallow yesterday.

Ronan got over 20 minutes of game time in that 1-12 to 1-9 victory. Kerry will now play Limerick in the McGrath Cup Final.

ALL IRELAND MEDALS: Up to recently we believe that All Ireland Medals won by Club players amounted to 223. That was made up as follows: Ladies SF 59; Mens SF 89; JF 14; U21F 11; MF 27; JH 2; Club Championship 21. We now can add three more medals to that total. Thanks to Eileen Dukes for keeping us up to date with the news that three of our players were on the All Ireland team that won the Freshers Football Final recently. Congratulations to Jack Morgan, Sean Dukes and Jonathan Myers on their notable triumph.

CONGRATULATIONS: to Catherine Ryan (current Assistant Club Secretary and former Club Secretary) on her good news story which went public last week.

In the first instance Catherine undertook her year-long health project for her own personal benefit which has ended up very successfully for her.

But, typical of Catherine, she didn’t mind going public in the hope that other people, in a similar situation, might be encouraged to embark on what she has achieved.

CLUBHOUSE: As always the Clubhouse is available for all types of Parties. For Bookings, phone Maurice McNamara at 086 3747 642.

BINGO: continues in our Clubhouse, Connolly Park, on this and every Saturday night, commencing at 8.30pm.

CARDS: The 45 Card Sessions  continue in the Clubhouse on every Monday and Thursday nights, commencing at 9.30pm each night.

LOTTO: Last week’s (9th Jan) Jackpot, worth €5,000, was not won. The numbers drawn were 13, 22, 23, 30. The €20 winners were: John O’Connell, c/o Club Rockies; Michael J. McNamara and Thomas McDonagh, both c/o  Rock St. Post Office; and Mike Houlihan and Con Barrett, both c/o Carmel O’Neill.

All associated with the Lotto were saddened to learn of the death of Eddie O’Sullivan (St. Joseph’s    Estate, Spa Rd., and late of Upper Rock Street) who died last week. For many years Eddie was one of our main Lotto sellers, bringing in upwards of 150 tickets each week. We extend sincere sympathy to his wife Maureen, his daughter Lorraine and to all his wider family and friends.

SYMPATHY: Sincere sympathy is also offered to the families of the following who died recently – Eileen O’Sullivan, Árd Carraig, Caherslee and late of Barrow West (aunt of Club Treasurer, Bernie Mannix); John Foale, Dromthacker; and William Anthony (Tony) Barry, St. Joseph’s Estate, Spa Road and late of Desmonds Avenue, Castleisland (husband of Joanie Hobbert – sister of the late James).
