SENIOR FOOTBALL: Our Co. Championship season gets underway on next Saturday evening (13th May) when we welcome St. Kierans to Connolly Park for a 6.30pm throw-in.
This will be our 5th meeting against Kierans – to date we have won 2 (2012 and 2013), drawn one and lost one (both of these games in 1988, the year in which Kierans went on to win their first and only SF title).
HURLING: Austin Stacks 2-1; Crotta O’Neills 4-10.
The first round of the North Kerry IH Championship went ahead in Connolly Park, in summer-like conditions, on last Wednesday evening (3rd May).
And it turned out to be one of those days – if anything could go wrong, it did go wrong. On a normal day, for example, we would have been four points up after just four minutes. We just weren’t at the races. Balls dropping short, balls coming off the post. And it wasn’t that Crotta were that much better than us. Most of us didn’t show up on the day. Very few could be satisfied with their performance, and if we had to name one person who wasn’t in that category it would have to be full back, Eoghan McKivergan who gave a solid display all through.
A Paul Daly pointed free in the 26th minute was our only score in the first half, while Crotta had 2-7 on the board at half time.
We did get into the game a little more in the second period with two opportunist goals from Terry Desmond and Paul Daly while Crotta added a further 2-3 to their tally.
It was good to see John Connelly back on the field of play for the first time this season.

B FOOTBALL: Austin Stacks 1-8; Moyvane 1-13.
Both sides went into this postponed round 1 Co. League game, played in Moyvane yesterday afternoon (7th May), without any points on the League table. Moyvane started well with two points from play inside the 3rd minute before team captain, Dale Counihan got us off the mark two minutes later. However the Moyvane boys pushed on from there and by the 25th minute had converted a further six points without reply.
Then with five minutes to go to half time centre back, Denis Costello raced up field and planted the ball in the net and that’s how the half concluded with Moyvane ahead by 0-8 to 1-1.
We had a very good opener to the second half and after 15 minutes had drawn level (0-9 to 1-6), after outscoring the North Kerry boys by 0-5 to 0-1. Seán Dukes set the ball rolling with a point from play forty seconds after the resumption and then Mikey Collins scored three (one from a free) with goalkeeper, Paddy Fitzgibbon sending over a long-distance free. The opposition’s only score during this 3rdquarter came from a 42nd minute free.
However the Moyvane boys regrouped in the final quarter scoring three consecutive points again by the 52nd minute.
With four minutes of normal time remaining we were given a life-line when referee, Eddie Barrett, awarded us penalty but Mikey Collins’s well-taken shot was brilliantly saved by the Moyvane keeper. And then they went up field and goaled from play to put them six points ahead. They added a further point a minute later and then in the closing minutes Denis Costello and Mikey Collins (free) had the last two points of the game.
With four rounds gone (out of 12) we now find ourselves languishing at the bottom of the League Table, still pointless.
It was good to see Shane Walsh back again after being unavailable for a while and also good to see Micheál Dillon (who spent the last few seasons as part of the SF Management team) making his playing debut.

We have a four weeks break now until our next competitive outing which will involve a trip to Knocknagoshel for the next round of the League (w/e 4th June).
MINOR FOOTBALL: We wish the Kerry Minors (including our own Dylan Casey, Ciarán O’Reilly and Michael Slattery) the best of luck as they take on Cork in the Munster MF semi final at Páirc Uí Rínn on this Wednesday evening (10th May).
The Co. League semi finals have been fixed for week Friday (19th May) at 7pm (that’s nine days after the Kerry .v. Cork match). We will be at home to Firies while Dingle will host Dr. Crokes in the second semi final.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish Maurice McNamara a full and speedy recovery from an illness which has hospitalized him at the moment. Everyone in the Club and elsewhere will be looking forward to you being back with us again as soon as possible Macna.
CARDS: The 45 Card Sessions continue in the Clubhouse on every Monday and Thursday nights, commencing at 9.30pm each night.
LOTTO: Last week’s (1st May) Jackpot, worth €5,600, was not won. The numbers drawn were 5, 14, 25, 32. The €20 winners were: Gerard O’Shea, Laurence Cotter, Jacinta Powell, and Pádraig & Marie Foley, all c/o The Club; and Angela Horgan, c/o Rock St. Post Office.
