BIRTHDAY GREETINGS: When Sister Jessica Doyle (former Club Camogie player) passed away last January, just one month short of her 105th birthday, then Colm Harty became the Club’s oldest living former player.

Colm won a SF Co. Championship medal with the Rock in 1936. He was just 17 years old when he made his SF Co. Championship debut on the 4th November 1934 in that season’s semi final against John Mitchels.

When that 1936 winning team celebrated the 50thanniversary of that famous victory in 1986 Colm is pictured in that iconic photograph alongside his former team colleagues Paddy Drummond and Tim Roundy Landers.

Colm, who resides in Dublin, was born in the year in which the Club was founded,  and he celebrates his 100th birthday on this coming Saturday (22nd July).  Happy birthday Colm from everyone in the Club.

SENIOR FOOTBALL: Milltown-Castlemaine 1-9; Austin Stacks 0-12.

On a damp and breezy Saturday evening (15th July) in Milltown this round 8 Co. League game ended all square when the home side equalized with the very last kick of the game in the 72nd minute.

Yes, 12 minutes of added time was played in the second half after a series of hold-ups due mainly to players from both sides picking up injuries which were treated on the pitch.

There was also a fracas close to the end of the game which resulted in a number of players from both sides receiving their marching orders.

The sides were level on one point a piece after six minutes – David Mannix on target for us from a free after a foul on Mikey Collins.

Then in the 11th minute a defensive error led to the only goal of the game and Milltown added two more points to leave them ahead by 1-3 to 0-1 after 18 minutes.

But our lads fought back and in the space of three minutes (22nd to 25th) had reduced that lead to one point with four good points from David Mannix (free), Darragh O’Brien, Shane O’Callaghan and Seán Dukes. Milltown pointed a free just before the break to leave them two points ahead at half time (1-4 to 0-5).

Two points by Jack Morgan and David Mannix (free) in the opening five minutes of the second half had the sides level for the second time in the game.

That was still the position half way through the half with both sides scoring two each – our two coming from David Mannix frees.

Then a minute later we went ahead for the first time in the game when Mikey Collins and Shane Guthrie put David Mannix through for a point from play.

We were still ahead by that one point when the game went into added time after both sides had added two points each – both of ours coming from play by Seán Dukes and Darragh O’Brien. Then with those added 12 minutes came Milltown’s equalizer on the stroke of full time.

The result still leaves us second from bottom with three more rounds of the League to be played.

The first of these games is fixed for next Sunday (23rd July) when we entertain Glenbeigh/Glencar in Connolly Park at 2pm.

Then on the weekend of 13thAugust we have another home game against An Ghaeltacht and the final round (w/e of 24th Sept) is an away game against Rathmore. And all these three teams are currently in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th places on the League table.
