END OF SEASON:

Hurling: Our Hurlers competed in five competitions during the year. At County level we were in Div 2A of the League with five other teams. However we only played two out of the five scheduled games and received walk-overs in the other three. In the other County competition we were defeated by Ballyheigue in the Co. IH Shield Final (4-10 to 0-6).

At Divisional level we took part in the North Kerry IH League and after losing all three round robin games we did not qualify for the closing stages of the competition.

After some good games in the South Kerry League we reached the final to be defeated by a one point margin by Duagh (3-12 to 2-14).  However we reversed that result in the South Kerry JH Championship, defeating the same opposition in the final by a similar margin (0-13 to 0-12) after a rip-roaring contest.

Twenty eight players lined out at one time or another in the 12 games played during the course of the season with two Club stalwarts lining out in all 12 games – Andrew Morrissey and Kevin O’Leary.

Paul Daly, with a whopping 8-50 (74) was the chief scorer, followed by Ronan Gilsenan (4-18), Colm Ó Giollagáin (1-23), Peter O’Regan (5-6) and Daniel Teahan (3-6). The year ended, as we have already reported, with the retirement of Peter O’Regan after a glorious 23 seasons with the Hurlers.

So a big thank you to all the squad and also to Michael O’Leary and Ger Scollard for their dedication throughout the season with a lot of help from many of the players as well in their management capacity.

Finally, next week it’s the turn of our Senior Football.
