CLUB AGM: Another piece of Club history was made on Sunday afternoon (6th Jan) when Máiréad Fernane became the first lady to be elected Chairperson of the Rock Club, following in the footsteps of her late Uncle, Dan O’Sullivan, who was the Club’s first Chairman when the Club was founded back in 1917.

And how appropriate as well that it took place on Nollaig na mBan.  Máiréad, who was Vice Chairperson for the past two seasons, takes over from Liam Lynch who stepped down following three seasons in the Chair and two previous seasons as Vice Chair.

Glowing tributes were paid to Liam for his stewardship over those five seasons and in particular for his leadership in many fund-raising projects, and Club developments, culminating in the purchase and development of the Nuns Field which is now fully operational.

Club Secretary for the past five years, Elma Nix, has also stepped down but will continue until her replacement is elected by the new Club Executive later this month. Many paid tribute to Elma for her outstanding contribution to the Club as secretary. Elma will continue in her role as the Ladies PRO and also as the Club Website administrator.

Both Treasurers, Michael Kenny and Bernie Mannix, have also stepped aside. However Michael was elected Vice Chairman and Bernie will continue in her role as Club Registrar for the coming season. Both were highly praised for their fundraising skills and their ability for having the Club finances in such good shape at present. Carmel O’Neill was also praised for her part in the good financial position, being the top Lotto Seller, along with Rock Street Post Office, during the year. Nial Shanahan (father of Club Footballers, Barry and Ronan) will be one of the Club Treasurers for the coming year, with the 2nd Treasurer to be elected later. All other personnel on the Outgoing Committee were re-elected.
