SENIOR FOOTBALL: Dingle 0-10; Austin Stacks 3-11.
On a dry, sunny but breezy Páirc an Aghasaigh on last Sunday afternoon (16th June) our lads had a double-scores win in this 6th round of the Co. League.

We played with the aid of the strong wind in the first half and led by three points to no score at the end of the first quarter – Darragh O’Brien with our opener from a free in the 4th minute after Seán Quilter was fouled, followed by two from play by Pa McCarthy and Jack Morgan.

However, once Dingle came to grips with the strong wind they succeeded in leveling matters during the next ten minutes putting over four points to just one for us. That point for us, in the 21st minute, was a beauty.

Dylan Casey sent a high one into the square which was fetched brilliantly by Kieran Donaghy and Star’s lay-off was put over from distance by Seán Quilter. In the closing minutes of the half we converted three more quick points, the first from a Seán Quilter free following a foul on Joseph O’Connor and two from play by Star and Darragh O’Brien.

This left us three ahead at the break (0-7 to 0-4) and one wondered would that be sufficient as we faced into that strong wind in the second half.

Dingle slightly edged matters in the opening 13 minutes reducing our lead to two after they put over three to our two (Darragh O’Brien from play and Seán Quilter from a free).

But in the space of two minutes (43rd to 45th) we put this game to bed with two superb goals. The first came when a high diagonal ball across goal by Pa McCarthy was touched down by Kieran Donaghy into the path of Shane O’Callaghan who blasted the net.

Star and Calla were involved also in the second goal which was another rasper of a shot, this time from Greg Horan. We added two more points in the next ten minutes, a pointed free by Seán Quilter after a foul on Jack O’Shea and a Shane O’Callaghan one from an acute angle from play.

Dingle then got three late points before Darragh O’Brien put the icing on the cake with another superb goal.

So another all-round brilliant display by our lads, with seven players getting on the score sheet, Joseph O’Connor and Greg Horan dominating the centre and our defence holding a tricky Dingle forward line to just four points in the first half and six in the second period.

Team: Robbie Murphy, Colin Griffin, Barry Shanahan, Dylan Casey, Jack Morgan (0-1), Conor Jordan (Capt), Ciarán O’Reilly, Joseph O’Connor, Greg Horan (1-0), Shane O’Callaghan (1-1), Shane Carroll, Pa McCarthy (0-1), Seán Quilter (0-4 – three frees), Kieran Donaghy (0-1), Darragh O’Brien (1-3  – one free).
Subs used: Wayne Guthrie (35m), Jack O’Shea (42m), Donagh McKivergan (54m), David Fitzmaurice (56m).

After the weekend’s results it’s only score difference that now separates the first seven teams on the League Table – all seven with eight points each – and we certainly can’t recall that happening before.

The seven are An Ghaeltacht, Rathmore, Kerins O’Rahillys, Kilcummin, Spa, Dr. Crokes and Austin Stacks – in that order. Our next game, on the week-end after next, will be an away trip to Templenoe.

B FOOTBALL: Ballylongford 1-10; Austin Stacks 0-11.
Our B team was most unlucky to go down by just two points to the home side in Ballylongford on Sunday.  With Kilgarvan and Knocknagoshel topping the table on ten points each we remain in 6th position in this eleven team league. Our next opponents will be Moyvane who are third on the table. This game will be in Connolly Park on the week-end after next.

THE C TEAM: Our postponed round 2 Co. League game against Ballydonoghue is due to be played in Connolly Park on tomorrow evening (18th June) at 7.30pm. Connolly Park will also be the venue for a Round 3 game against Na Gaeil which is scheduled to go ahead on this Friday evening (21st June) at 7.30pm..

BEST OF LUCK: to the Kerry Minors (including our own Luke Chester and Adam Curran) and the Kerry Seniors as they take on Cork in both Munster Finals in Páirc Uí Chaoimh on this coming Saturday evening (22nd June).

Our Seniors have won 80 Munster Finals with Cork in second spot with 37. Our Minors also lead the Roll of Honours with 47 titles followed again by Cork with 29.
