MUNSTER SF SEMI FINAL: So, after a long wait, it’s now ‘all systems go’ for our trip to Cork on Sunday next to play Nemo Rangers in the semi final of the Munster Club Championship. This will be our seventh meeting against the Cork Champions.

In our previous six encounters (all in the mid to late 1970s) we have drawn three and lost three. In to-day’s round one game Nemo had a goal to spare against Newcastle West (1-9 to 0-9). So it’s ‘there for the taking’ in Páirc Uí Rinn next Sunday (17th Nov) with a 1.30pm throw-in.

ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS: There was a great turn-out in the Clubhouse last Saturday night (9th Nov) for our two winning football teams of the past – our Seniors who were celebrating the 25th anniversary of their Co. Championship win in 1994 and our Minors who won the Club’s first ever Co. Championship title some fifty years ago (1969).

Most of the winning panels and the family members of those who have sadly passed away or who could not be present themselves on the night were in attendance. Co. Board Chairman, Tim Murphy, who, despite his busy schedule, was also present, and he congratulated the Club for hosting the event and said it was always one of the highlights of Co. Championship day to celebrate the victors of 25 years ago.

Our Organising Sub-Committee under the guidance of Eddie Barrett, Jim Naughton and Club Chairperson, Mairead Fernane made a profile presentation to each player made up of photos together with match and player details of the two campaigns in 1969 and 1994 (put together with great research work by Tim Slattery).

Great credit is due to the above Organising Committee who worked tirelessly over the past few weeks making sure that all involved were contacted. Thanks also to Terry Healy who supplied some tasty food on the night and to Harry Hynes and his excellent helpers which included Annette Carmody, Nora O’Connor and Bernie Somers who proved the catering.

Then on Sunday, in Austin Stack Park, our 1994 Senior Panel were honoured by the Kerry Co. Board during half-time in the SF Co. Championship final and again it was great to see all those heroes of the past lead by our Flag Bearer, Barry Nagle (son of Malachy) and in particular to see Nicola Galvin among the group representing her late Dad, John Galvin.
Finally a special thanks to Adrienne McLoughlin whose beautiful photography of both events – in the Clubhouse on Saturday and in Austin Stack Park on Sunday – is available on our Website for all to see.

SENIOR FOOTBALL: St. Marys 1-6; Austin Stacks 4-15.
We travelled to Con Keating Park in Cahersiveen on last Saturday afternoon (9th Nov) for our 11th and final round game of the Co. League and came away with a good win against a St. Marys side who had nothing to play for from a League point of view and who were resting a lot of key players as they prepare to play Waterville in a fortnight’s time in the opening round of the South Kerry Championship.

We did all the damage in the first half, going in at the break with a seventeen points advantage (3-10 to 0-2).

Wayne and his colleagues emptied the bench during the second half and with our lads taking their foot off the pedal we just shaded the scoring during this period (1-5 to 1-4) and now find ourselves in a play-off spot against either Dr. Crokes or Dingle (whose final round game has now been fixed for next Sunday week – 24th Nov) to decide who will play Rathmore in the Co. League Final.
