COMMUNITY COVID 19 RESPONSE: Club Secretary Elma Nix sends the following message – Last Monday (March 30th) Kerry Co Council launched their County coordinated Covid-19 response supported by Kerry GAA.

Austin Stacks have now amalgamated our own Club Community Response with this initiative.

Anyone seeking assistance is asked to phone the Kerry COVID-19 Community Helpline for non-emergency and non-medical assistance:  Need a delivery of fuel?  Need a delivery of food/groceries? Need a delivery of medical supplies?  Need other advice or support?
Pick up the phone and ring 1800 807 009.

Kerry Co Council will contact the Austin Stacks liason team of  Ciara, Wayne & Elma who will match the call-out to one of our club volunteers who have signed up to help.  To date we have assisted with 19 calls.

Thank you to all our Club volunteers for their assistance, the feedback from the public has been extremely positive. Stay safe everyone.

SENIOR FOOTBALL: No one in any part of the Planet can forecast what will happen with the Sports calendar this year. Will our Co. Championship go ahead?

Let’s hope it will. We here in Kerry, for example, must go back 60 years to find a Co. SF Final not being concluded in the same calendar year.

Well the 1960  Final between John Mitchels and West Kerry did take place in November of that year but when it ended in a draw the replay didn’t take place until the following year (9th April 1961). Mitchels had a comfortable win in that replay by 1-11 to 0-3 – their 2nd title in succession which went on to end up with their historic five-in-a-row (1959-1963).

CLUBHOUSE: Our Bar and Clubhouse remain closed until further notice.

CARDS: Likewise our 45 Card Sessions on Monday and Thursday nights are also on hold. Sad to relate that another of our regular Card players has passed away after a short illness. Jim O’Sullivan was there with us on the last Monday night (9th March) that we had Cards before they were cancelled due to the Coronavirus. See sympathy.

LOTTO: Our Lotto is also out of action for the time being.

SYMPATHY:  Sincere sympathy is offered to the families of the following who died recently – Nicholas (Nicky) Comerford, St. Brendan’s Park and formerly Mitchel’s Avenue (grandfather of former Club Footballers, Pat and Killian); John O’Leary, O’Rahilly’s Villas; Jim O’Sullivan, Cloghers, Ballyard and formerly Knockmoyle and Kilfenora (see Cards); Paddy Foley, Knockmoyle and formerly Blennerville; Kathleen McEvoy (nee Goodall), Connolly Park and formerly Mitchel’s Road and Old Marian Park (mother of former Club Footballer, Donal); Maisie (Marie) Brennan (nee McCormack), Connolly Park and formerly Rock St.(mother of former Club Footballer, Anne Brennan  and Martina Slattery – wife of Michael – brother of Tim Tiger Slattery); and Tony Quirke, Ballyaukeen.
