STACKS 100: Let us continue to remind all club members that our Award Winning Stacks 100 website is now available to view – check out club memories, matches & podcasts – a great way to spend an enjoyable few minutes or hours and hours and hours . . . www.stacks100.ie.

COMMUNITY COVID 19 RESPONSE: Kerry Co Council’s coordinated Covid-19 response, supported by Kerry GAA, continues to provide this wonderful service in these difficult times.

Austin Stacks have now amalgamated our own Club Community Response with this initiative.  Anyone seeking assistance is asked to phone the Kerry COVID-19 Community Helpline for non-emergency and non-medical assistance:  Need a delivery of fuel?  Need a delivery of food/groceries? Need a delivery of medical supplies?  Need other advice or support? Pick up the phone and ring 1800 807 009.

Kerry Co Council will contact Austin Stacks, our thanks to Ciara Nix for managing these calls.  Ciara & Wayne Quillinan will match the call-out to one of our club volunteers who have signed up to help.

We try in so far as possible to match calls which are local to our volunteers.  This has worked very well and in many cases a rapport has built up between our volunteers and those seeking assistance so much so that as the weeks go by we are finding that callers often revert directly to their club contact when they need a grocery run etc.

To date we have assisted with approx 40 calls directly but we believe that number is substantially higher if direct requests to club volunteers is factored in.  So a continuing thank you to all our wonderful volunteers – you are a credit to your club.

ANNUAL PAUL LUCEY RUN: Our annual Paul Lucey run now a firm fixture on the Austin Stacks Club calendar for the May Bank Holiday Monday unfortunately had to be postponed due to Covid-19 restrictions  but the organizing committee are very adamant that the event is not being cancelled.

To bring that message home a fantastic video montage “The Rock Will Rise Again” was produced by Paul Lucey’s son in law Ray Swan & Paul’s son Niall.

The video, featuring some amazing photographs from our own Adrienne Mc Loughlin, was posted on the club’s social media platforms last week so hopefully club supporters got an opportunity to view it.

The 2 minute video has received great reviews so for anyone who missed it log into www.stacks100.ie as it’s well worth a look.

LEE STRAND CO-OP: We send our congratulations to Lee Strand Co Op who celebrated their 100th Birthday on 30th April.

Lee Strand have enjoyed a long association with our club and we thank them for their continued support as proud sponsors of the Denis O’Connor U13 Invitational Lee Strand Tournament a highlight in the Juvenile Football GAA Calendar every September.

HURLING: After Peter Doyle (Bella) and Kevin O’Leary started the ball rolling the previous week, winning the number one and two jerseys for the best Hurling 15 of the last 30 years (1990-2019), the contest continued last week and as we go to print a further eight jerseys have now been  selected up to Jersey number 10.

The following are the eight players who have been voted through – Peter O’Regan at No. 3; Brian Shanahan at No. 4; Andrew Foley at No. 5; Martin McKivergan at No. 6; Andrew Morrissey at No. 7; Padraig Teahan and Kieran McCaughley the two centre field men) and just as we went to press on Monday evening Daithí O’Regan won the No. 10 position.

Five more positions have now to be filled (Jerseys No. 11 to 15 incl.) and this will now be concluded by this coming Saturday. Well done again to Ger Scollard who is conducting the whole process.

CONGRATULATIONS: We offer congratulations this week to former Club Footballer, Seán Purcell and his girl-friend Aoife Healy on the birth of a baby boy on 28th April named Seán Ogie Purcell – a grandson for John and Mary.

CLUBHOUSE: Our Bar and Clubhouse remain closed until further notice.

CARDS: Likewise our 45 Card Sessions on Monday and Thursday nights are also on hold.
