PAUL LUCEY MEMORIAL: Another reminder that Club Chairman, Billy Ryle is appealing to all supporters and friends of Austin Stacks GAA Club, Tralee to register for the 2020 Virtual Paul Lucey Run/Walk for the Rock 5k/10k, which can be done, at your own convenience in the period from midnight on 31st October to 11.30pm on 1st November.

The annual event, which is virtual this year because of the coronavirus pandemic, pays tribute to an outstanding hero of The Rock and is a major source of funding for the Club. Wholehearted support is needed more than ever this year because most of the Club’s annual fundraising events fell foul to the coronavirus pandemic.

This is an ideal opportunity for people of all ages to run or walk either distance, wherever they are in the world, to pay tribute to a very special gentleman.

Billy reminds us that Paul enjoyed a distinguished playing career with the Club, winning County Senior Football Championship medals in 1975, 1976 and 1979 and an All-Ireland Club Championship medal in 1977.

His playing career was followed by an equally successful career in men’s team management between 1986 and 2015. Paul’s illness curtailed his involvement in 2016 but he was back in action in 2017 as part of the management of our gallant ladies’ football team which won that year’s County Junior Football Championship.

Paul Lucey was a dedicated and popular member of Austin Stacks Club until his untimely death in December 2017, almost three years ago.

He is affectionately remembered by Rock people as a friendly and unassuming man, who was a gifted footballer and an inspirational manager of people.

Billy is urging people to don their Rock colours and run or walk 5k or 10k wherever they are. He will begin his own 5k walk from the Club entrance in Connolly Park at 11am on Sunday, 1st November.

His route will take him down Rock St., via Stacks Villas onto Caherslee. The route turns right at Mounthawk Roundabout along Bracker O’Regan Road and right again into the Tralee/Fenit Greenway, returning to the Club entrance in Connolly Park.

He would love some company, while complying with social distancing regulations. Registration details are on the Austin Stack Club’s website. www.austinstacks.ie
