SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING: Following on from the death of Club Trustee, Seán Murphy, in February 2020, the Austin Stacks Club Executive proposes that the real property (lands and buildings) of the Club be transferred by the surviving Trustees to the G.A.A.’s Corporate Trustee Iontaobhas Corporaideach Chumann Luthchleas Gael Cuideachta Faoi Theorainn Rathaiochta (ICCLG) .

It is important to note that the exercise of Trustee’s powers continue to be subject to Directive of the Club. ICCLG will be registered owner of the property solely as Nominee for the Club, and the Club will continue to beneficially own and control its own property.

To deal with this matter a Special General Meeting will be held (virtually) on this Wednesday the 10th March at 7.30pm. For further information regarding this proposed change and details of how to participate in the meeting see www.austinstacks.ie

REGISTRSTION ONLINE: The Club is continuing to encourage members to register online as funds are badly needed due to the fact that many of our fundraising activities are at a stand still because of the lockdown.

All of the membership options can be found on our website. Supporters of the Rock who don’t normally pay membership are being reached out to this year because of the circumstances we find ourselves in. Austin Stacks needs all its supporters to become members.

AUSTIN STACKS LADIES CLUB: are continuing to appeal to all club members to please support them if shopping in Lidl. Follow these 4 simple steps to help raise funds for Stacks Ladies Cub (1) Download/open the Lidl Plus App (2) Select Austin Stacks LGFA as your chosen club (3) Spend over €30 instore and scan your Lidl Plus card (4) Collect 6 stamps by Sun April 11th and submit your card via Lidl Plus.

NEW REFEREES: We continue to remind members that Kerry GAA is looking for young  people who are interested in refereeing, to officiate under 11 and under 13 games and also perhaps maybe ex players, that could be available to referee a senior game within a year or two with the proper training.

Training courses will begin shortly. Anyone interested is asked to contact Austin Stacks Club Secretary Elma Nix 086 1053300.

CONGRATULATIONS: to Asdee’s John Joe O’Carroll, former Co. Board Treasurer (2004-2013) and former Central Council Delegate (2015-2020) on his recent appointment as a Trustee of the GAA at the GAA’s Annual Congress and congrats also to Kerins O’Rahillys Willie O’Connor (former Co. Board PRO) on his appointment to the GAA’s National Central Appeals Committee.

MARCH IN THE PAST: On the field of play the second week in March (8th to 14th incl) must surely have seen the greatest happening to date in the Club’s history – the winning of our one and only (so far) All Ireland SF Club Championship.

On 13th March 1977 we thronged Croke Park to see our lads defeat the Derry and Ulster Champions, Ballerin by 1-13 to 2-7. Team: Teddy Brick, Garry Scollard, Noel Power, Paul Lucey, Fintan Lawlor, Tony O’Keeffe, Ger Power, John O’Keeffe, Ger O’Keeffe, Fionán Ryan, Denny Long, Timmy Sheehan, Jackie Power, Paudie McCarthy, Mikey Sheehy. Sub used; Colm Mangan.

The following also lined out during the earlier rounds of the competition and during the Co. Championship campaign: Billy Curtin, Aidan O;Connor, Mike Culloty, Paddy Whack Moriarty, and John L. McElligott.

In 2010 Denis McElligott and Barry Shanahan made their debuts with the Kerry U21s (13th March) as did Fearghal MacNamara and Shane Carroll in 2012 (14th March).

Off the pitch the Club launched its Jobs Match initiative for the 2nd year in a row in 2016 (9th March). And in 2004 (10th March) our Old Clubrooms were knocked to make way for our new state-of-the-art construction.

Finally the second week in March saw the passing of three former players – Rory McSweeney in 1990 (14th); Joe Kennington in 1993 (12th) and Martin Bracker O’Regan in 2005 (14th).

CARDS: No, unfortunately, we are not announcing the commencement of our Card sessions, not just yet at any rate. Just reminding ourselves that it was twelve months ago this week that we had our last session (12th March 2020). Hopefully, we will be back again in the near future.

CLUB LOTTO: Monday Night’s (8th March) Jackpot, worth €13,400, was not won. The numbers drawn were 10, 18, 19, 27.

The €20 winners were Mike Tangney, Gerard O’Reilly and Maria Guthrie, all c/o The Club; Tom Prendergast, Donaghmede and Mary O’Connor, c/o Malachy Nagle.

BIRTHDAY GREETINGS: And mention of Club Lotto let us wish a happy birthday to one of the Club’s great Lotto sellers, the one and only Carmel Quilter-O’Neill who has just celebrated her 70th on Monday (8th March). Sorry, that has to be a mistake – that should be her 40th surely – and not her 70th.

SYMPATHY: Sincere sympathy is offered to the families of the following who died recently: Rev. Fr. Tom O’Connell, Australia and formerly Lissireen, Abbeydorney (brother of Canon Moss O’Connell – former Kerry Footballer and sister of Sheila Healy – all members of our 45 Cards sessions); Danny Hallissey, Mitchel’s Crescent; Dermot Ryle, Rock Street; Rosemary (May) Cullinane (nee Ross), Paddington, London and formerly Casement’s Avenue; Mary Harty (nee O’Kelly), Árd na Lí, Oakpark and formerly Strand Road; James O’Brien, Marian Park and formerly St. Martin’s Park; Pierce Stapleton, Liosdara, Oakpark and formerly Tuam; Ryan O’Brien, Glenview, Doon; and Edel Walsh, Marian Park.
