FITNESS CLASSES: There will be Individual Pod Fitness training in the Clubhouse every Tuesday and Thursday evenings  from 7 – 8. All are welcome. Contact Diane at 087 7940531 for further information.

ANN EAGER FUNDRAISER: Everyone in the Club and the wider community will wish former Club Footballer, Ann Eager all the best as she undertakes that mammoth 500KM cycle, starting in Derry Beag in Co. Donegal on next Monday morning (27th Sept) and travelling all the way down the west coast to arrive in our own Derrymore on the following Saturday (2nd Oct).

The Cycle is to raise funds for two great causes – the Intensive Care Unit in Beaumont Hospital, Dublin and the Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit in University Hospital Kerry – and to commemorate Ann’s sister Pauline Lynch (nee O’Callaghan) who died in Beaumont Hospital after a short illness on 7th December 2019.

SENIOR FOOTBALL: We travel to Dingle on this Sunday afternoon (26th Sept) to play the home side in the 3rd and final round of the Club Championship. Throw in at 2.30pm. With both sides already through to the next round after their two wins in the opening rounds the result of this third round game will just determine who tops the group. There will then be two semi finals (Winner Group 1.v 2nd placed Group 2; Winner Group 2 .v. 2nd placed Group 1) and a Club Championship Final on a date to be finalised.

MINOR FOOTBALL (Under 17) Austin Stacks 0-5; St. Kierans 5-15:

It was just one of those days when nothing will go right for you. Everyone knows that our boys are class footballers as they have shown in their recent performances during the County and Central Leagues and that this first round of this season’s Co. Championship, played in a murky Connolly Park on last Saturday afternoon (18th Sept), was just an off-day. Having said that, one has to admit that Kierans gave a top class display on the day.

We failed to score during the first half while the opposition chalked up 3-10. They had increased that lead to 4-15 before Damien Hogan opened our scoring from a free just before the second water break. We added a further four points during the final quarter – a pointed free from Paddy Lane and three from play by Noah Townsend, Thomas Derege and Caden O’Mahony before Kierans got the final score of the game – a fifth goal in the 60th minute.

Team: Michael Tansley, Caden O’Mahony (0-1), Cian Dillane, Jack Doyle, Luke Casey, Colm Browne, Jack Hannon, Josh Lynch, Togor Silong, Noah Townsend (0-1), Enda Cahill (Capt), Sean Moynihan, Marc Carmody, Damien Hogan (0-1 free), Darragh Moriarty.

Subs used: Pádraig O’Halloran (21m), Paddy Lane (23m) (0-1 free), Luke Fitzgerald (34m), Thomas Derege (34m) (0-1), Donnacha Horgan (40m).

We now travel to Lewis Road on next Saturday afternoon (25th Sept) to play the home side Dr. Crokes in round 2 of this three round opener.

CLUB MISSION STATEMENT: Congratulations to Eamonn O’Reilly and his colleagues on the Sub-Committee (Gene O’Donnell, John O’Keeffe, Mike Casey and Paudie McQuinn) for a very comprehensive Mission/Vision Statement and Club Values which they recently produced and which was formally endorsed by the Club Committee at its recent September Executive Meeting.

SEPTEMBER IN THE PAST (15/09 to 21/09). On the field of play we go back to 1931 to the 20th Sept. that year, the day that Kerry won their first All Ireland Minor Championship, defeating Louth by 3-4 to 0-4.. There were four Rock players on that team – Brendan Reidy, Frank O’Neill, Jimmy Gawksie Gorman and Tim O’Sullivan.

Also on the field of play (21st Sept 1969) we won our first ever Co. MF Championship title defeating Kenmare District by 3-12 to 2-5. Team: Joe Parker, John Crean, John Joe Naughton, Brendan Mangan, Ger O’Keeffe, Noel Kelter, Eddie O’Connor, John O’Keeffe (Capt), Pat Dowling, Michael Sugrue, Ger Power, Tommy Kennington, Terry McSweeney, Ciarán Sugrue, Fergus Dillon. Rest of Panel: TimmyClifford, Niall Murphy, Tony O’Keeffe, Ger MacNamara, George Dineen, Pat McElligott, Rory McSweeney.

Three outstanding Club members passed away during the third week in September. In 1968 (17th Sept) Dolly Mulchinock died tragically in Lourdes following a traffic accident. Then in 1988 (20th Sept) Moss O’Carroll, one of the great Team Mentors of both mens and ladies football passed away and in 2014 (17th Sept) John Lynch a Club Vice President and a former player and member of the Club Executive died.

CARDS: It has been so long since we had Cards in our Clubhouse (Thurs 12th March 2020 was the last night) that we had to go to the dictionary to check the spelling of the word. But with restrictions (including social distancing) being eased as and from 22nd October we are coming back on the first available night – the October Bank Holiday Monday (25th October) provided, of course, that there will be no further mishaps in the meantime. Looking forward to seeing all our old friends again and any newcomers who would also be most welcome for our usual  9.30pm start on Mondays and Thursday nights.

CLUB LOTTO: Monday Night’s (20th Sept) Jackpot, worth €2,850, was not won. The numbers drawn were 1, 3, 24, 32. The €20 winners were Michael McCannon and Ronan Shanahan, both c/o The Club; Mandy Furey, c/o OnLine; and Ann Eager and  Kevin Madden, both c/o Kevin Barry’s.
