CHAIRMAN’S ADDRESS: Club Chairman, Billy Ryle is very grateful to all units of our great club for their generous contribution to our senior team’s win in the county senior football championship final.

The huge level of support for the team, the indefatigable spirit, the unity of purpose, the all-time high morale in the club and the determination right across the club to pursue further success is heart-warming.

Billy wants to particularly acknowledge the 16th Man – the colourful, the noisy, the playful, the mischievous, the famous Rockie supporters.

No other club is blessed with such loyal supporters. Next Sunday, we begin the next stage in the journey when we play Limerick champions, Newcastle West, in the Munster senior club semi-final in Austin Stack Park at 1.30pm.

This is a meeting of neighbouring county champions so our gallant senior team will need the same level of support that spurred our team on to victory in the county final.

So, Austin Stack supporters, once again on Sunday convert the far terrace into a sea of black and amber. Let the drums roll out and let the flags fly proudly in the wind. Let the Rockie anthems rent the seasonal air.

The stakes are very high with a place in the Munster final in the New Year up for grabs. As a united and focussed Club, Austin Stacks can achieve that place in the final. C’mon The Rock!

SENIOR FOOTBALL: Preparations are well underway for our Munster semi final clash with Newcastlewest at Austin Stack Park on this coming Sunday (19th Dec). Unlike our Co. Final it will be result on the day with extra time and penalties if required. Throw in at 1.30pm. The other semi final between St. Finbarrs and Ennis Éire Óg goes ahead at the same time in Páirc Uí Rinn.

Our last semi final encounter was two years ago when we represented Kerry as Club Champions. That day in Páirc Uí Rinn we went down to Nemo Rangers who went on to win the Munster title. In 2014 when we represented the county as Co. Champions we defeated Ballincollig in the semi final by 0-15 to 1-9.

WINNING CAPTAINS: Mention in last week’s Notes that Dylan Casey became the Club’s 10th winning SF Co. Championship captain (and the youngest ever at 21) has prompted a number of followers to ask who were the other nine captains.

Well in yearly order they were Joe Barrett, captain of the first four winning teams in 1928, 1930, 1931 and 1932; Miko Doyle (grand-uncle-in-law of Kieran Donaghy) in 1936; Billy Curtin 1973; Jo Jo Barrett 1975; John O’Keeffe 1976; Ger Power 1979; Michael Counihan 1986; Pat Slattery 1994; and Barry Shanahan in 2014.

FITNESS CLASSES: The Individual Pod Fitness Training sessions continues in the Clubhouse every Tuesday and Thursday evenings  from 7pm to 8pm. All are welcome. Contact Diane at 087 7940531 for further information.
